It was a fun game and both teams played very well. The 6th graders concluded their regular season play against St. Peter at home Monday night. The boys have made some great improvements with ball handling and passing. The 6th graders should be very proud of their performance. They finished with a win-final score of They will play at IC Sunday and then will have a week off before heading into playoffs. We wish them the very best!! 5th Grade Tigers Girls Basketball Upcoming Games 5th Transf. Away 02/11 5th Transf. Playoffs This was the week for the Clash of the Tigers. The 6th grade boys team took on the 5th grade boys team in their ICS league matchup. The excitement was high among the players and the fans were Thunderstruck. Coach Thoms pulled the boys together before the game, Are You Ready? We have to play with some High Voltage energy in this game because those 6th graders are like a Live Wire. Let s come out like T.N.T. and light this court up. The 6th grade boys started out strong and had a few Jailbreak fast breaks to go up early and start to pull away. But the 5th graders were not ready to be Shot Down in Flames and managed to start to find their mojo and slow down the 6th graders going into halftime. Coach James took over on the pep talk, We need to get Back in Black and find our grit. Sometimes It s a Long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock and Roll, but right now we need to focus on making our shots and playing good D. We may not know Who Made Who, but we do know that you were made to play hoops. Now go out and play like a Heatseeker. At the start of the second half, the 5th graders chipped away at the 6th grade lead to get within four and the rest of half was a back and forth, Shoot to Thrill battle with neither team letting up. In the end, the 6th graders came away with a victory over the 5th graders. The 5th graders followed up their close game against the 6th graders to square off against St Croix Catholic at home on Monday evening. No pep talks were needed for the boys on this night because they came ready to play, not as individual players but as a team. They jumped out right away on the offensive side by making great passes and even better shots. Defensively, they clamped down like a vise and forced St Croix Catholic into bad shots or turnovers. While the boys scoring may have slowed down as the game went on, their defensive intensity never waned and the Tigers came away with a victory. The boys ended their inaugural CAA season with a 5-4 record heading into playoffs.
3 Swiminator News The Swiminators is a team composed of athletes from Transfiguration, Presentation, St. Peter's, St. Jerome's and St. Jude of the Lake. The team has been practicing since the first week of January and have been working on improving their skills, form and endurance. At this time we have approximately 75 swimmers from these schools and they all bring a great attitude and enthusiasm for the sport to the pool every week. Our team has also been blessed this year with a donor from one of the schools which allowed us to cover the additional cost of securing a weekend practice on late Sunday mornings at the White Bear Lake YMCA. This means we only have a weeknight practice until 8:30 pm at the Maplewood Middle School every other week instead of one or two every week and tired swimmers at school the next day. Scheduled meets for the season are: Saturday, February 18th, All Saints Invitational, at Kenwood Trail Middle School, Lakeville Saturday, February 25th, Host: Visitation, at St. Thomas Academy Sunday, March 12th, Host: St. Odilia, at St. Kate's University NOTE: This swim meet has not been confirmed yet Saturday, March 25th, Host: All Saints, at Kenwood Trail Middle School, Lakeville Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2, CAA State Prelims at Skyview Elementary, Oakdale Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4-5, CAA State Finals at University of Minnesota, Aquatic Center People can go to to see information about the team. Or contact Bob Kirchberg by at Kkirchberg1@gmail.com.
4 Athletic Director Be aware that coaches, assistant coaches and volunteers need to be current with the VIRTUS training. A couple of things to be watching for and putting on your calendar when the announcement is made. Girls Basketball Playoffs will end on the last Sunday in Feb. We might be hosting some games in the middle of Feb. Boys Basketball Playoffs will end the first Sunday in March. We might be hosting some games late in Feb. At this point the CAA has not set the Playoff schedule. We could host a number of games. Possible dates are 02/16, 02/17, 02/21, 02/23, 02/24, 02/27, 02/28, and 03/02. Black & Gold Banquet is planned for April 1, Booster Club has run a golf tournament for the last couple of years, and run it around mid May. Athletic Sports Banquet, is usually held late in May or early June. We have been seeing around 100 people attend, both students and adults. We hold it in our own gym, so there is room for more. For every home Basketball game we will be asking for volunteers to run the scoreboard. Plus if we have two or more home games on the same night the Booster Club might open up the Concessions stand and they will be looking for volunteers also. Watch SUG for these opportunities. This shows three tabs for concessions, basketball games and basketball tournaments. You can move between all three of them by clicking on the tab. The time has come to begin the Spring registrations for the sports teams we field. The form is showing on the last page of this newsletter. Please submit by 03/05 so we can decide which teams will be formed this year. We have had Softball, Baseball, Track & Field and Lacrosse. If it looks like we are short on sign ups at a certain grade our first thought is to combine those players. Either have them play up a grade or combine the next grade lower than them into a team.
