2 F E B R U A R Y I S S U E 5 Q: At the end of GOTR, there s a 5k. When is the 5k? A: This spring the 5k is Sunday, May 19 at Virginia Wesleyan University. Q: Do you guys have any goals at GOTR? A: Each week there are new goals. The girls set their own running goals and then depending on the lesson, they set some sort of personal goal to achieve. Girls on the Run Spotlight February's spotlight is Athletics Dani interviewed Ms. Harrell, one of the club leaders for CFCMS's chapter of Girls on the Run: Heart and Sole. Q: We heard you guys where on the news, how exactly did that happen? A: If I remember correctly, we were one of very few schools where all of the coaches were teachers. The head of GOTR found that very interesting and when she came to visit us, she really enjoyed the dynamics of our group. When she was approached to pick one of the local groups to go on TV, she chose us. It was a fantastic experience for all of us! Q: At the end of GOTR, there s a 5k. When is the 5k? A: This spring the 5k is Sunday, May 19 at Virginia Wesleyan University. Q: What is it like being a coach at GOTR? A: I love being a coach for GOTR. This group isn t just about running a 5k. It s about becoming the best you. Not only do I get to help and encourage these young ladies, they actually do the same for me. We all seem to learn something new about ourselves each week. We find strength and courage in places that we didn t know we had. It is quite remarkable. Q: What are some things you do at GOTR? A: Every lesson includes warm-ups for your body and your brain. We also do team building excerises. We also ask questions that make you think about yourself and then give you an exercise to do with that. Lastly, we run, of course! Q: Is there anything you would like to add? A: This is my first year coaching GOTR and I am so glad that I am a part of such an amazing organization! I have met some wonderful young ladies and I look forward to the next group of girls!

4 F E B R U A R Y I S S U E 5 MY FAVORITE PRESIDENT W R I T T E N B Y A L E N A N I E V E S In honor of President's Day, let me tell you about my favorite. There are 45 American presidents in history if you include our current president, but you can only have one favorite. My favorite president is Woodrow Wilson. Woodrow Wilson was 28th president of American and the leader of Progressive Movement. He led America during World War I. He was born on December 28, Wilson served the country from March 4, 1913 to Mach 4, My favorite president is former president Woodrow Wilson because he strove for world peace. THE BEST U.S. PRESIDENT IN HISTORY W R I T T E N B Y A N O N Y M O U S Why do we celebrate President's Day? It started as a celebration of George Washington's Birthday. Now, it has grown to encompass the celebration of all presidents in U.S. history. There will never be a universal answer on the "best" president, and that is ok! It's my belief that Franklin D. Roosevelt was the best president in history because helped American recover from one of the worst depressions ever and helped us get through WWII! FDR was the 32nd president of the U.S. and served from 1933 to He was the only president to ever serve more than 2 terms.
