After claiming a 14-9 victory over Detroit on Saturday, April 20 in its first-ever home game, the Marquette (4-6) will return to the road for a mid-week game at Bellarmine (7-5, 3-4 ECAC) on Tuesday, April 23. Face-off at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium is set for 2 p.m. Central time and a live video stream will be available at Athletics.Bellarmine.edu. The Golden Eagles will put their two-game win streak on the line when they make the trip to Louisville, Ky., to take on the Knights. During the recent streak, MU has scored 14 goals in each contest and limited opponents to under 10 goals. Bellarmine (7-5, 3-4 ECAC) enters the Tuesday afternoon contest with Marquette having dropped three straight, including a 8-9 double-overtime loss to Hobart (April 13) and a 12-7 decision at Virginia (April 20). Bellarmine has found success this season while playing on its home turf, having won five of its seven games at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium. Following the game at Bellarmine, Marquette will head to New York, N.Y., and battle St. John's on Saturday, April 27 for its final road contest of the season. Currently, Bellarmine has seven players on its roster with ten-or-more points, including Michael Ward s 20 goal, 10-assist campaign. Dillion Ward has seen the maority of minutes in net this season and has posted a 7.41 goals against average with 87 saves. Golden Eagles last time out... The Marquette University men's lacrosse team defeated the University of Detroit Mercy, 14-9, in its first-ever home game Saturday night at Hart Park in front of 1,156 fans.marquette fell behind to Detroit, 3-2, after the first quarter, but managed to score eight of the next 10 goals to take a commanding 10-5 lead into the final quarter. The Golden Eagles used a 6-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter to pull away from the Titans and earn the program's first-ever home win in front of 1,156 fans at Hart Park. Redshirt junior Tyler Melnyk led all scorers in the contest with six points on a game-high four goals and two assists. Goalie JJ Sagl picked up his fourth victory of the season with an eight-save performance in between the pipes. Hart Park to serve as Marquette s home field in 2013 Both of Marquette s home games in 2013 will be played at Hart Park (7300 W. Chestnut Street, Wauwatosa, WI 53213), just a short drive west from campus. The stadium has an artificial turf playing surface and a capacity of 5,500. 3 Jakub West, Friends of Jaclyn Foundation recognized Honorary team member Jakub West was recognized by the Marquette men s lacrosse team during an on-field ceremony prior to the Golden Eagles home game vs. Detroit. Over the past 18 months, Jakub has endeared himself to the Marquette team after connecting with head coach Joe Amplo through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Since 2005, friends of Jaclyn reaches to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain cancer by pairing them with college athletic teams. The Marquette men s lacrosse team has been there to help provide support and friendship to Jakub during this journey. Today there are more than 300 children adopted to college and high School sports teams nationwide through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Time Warner Cable Sports 32 to broadcast May 5 game The Marquette University men s lacrosse team will play its first televised game on May 5, 2013, when the Golden Eagles host nationally ranked Duke in the regular-season finale at Hart Park. The game will be broadcast live in Northeast and Southeast Wisconsin on Time Warner Cable s regional sports network, Sports 32. Marquette one of two new NCAA Div. I lacrosse programs in 2013 Marquette joins High Point as the only other new NCAA Division I men s lacrosse program to begin competition in MU will play as an independent for its 2013 inaugural season before becoming a full-time member of the BIG EAST Conference in Golden Eagles, Amplo capture first NCAA Division I win Marquette topped Air Force 8-6 on March 2 at Falcon Stadium -- the second game of the Golden Eagles 2013 inaugural season -- for the first win in the history of the MU men s lacrosse program. It also marked the first collegiate victory for rookie head coach Joe Amplo. Golden Eagles facing nation s top teams in first season Marquette is slated to go head-to-head against some of the top college lacrosse teams throughout the country in There were six schools on MU s inaugural schedule either ranked or receiving votes in one or both of the national polls when the Golden Eagles opened the regular season on Feb. 23 at Ohio State, a consensus top-20 team. MU against the Top-20 MU dropped its first regular-season game at No. 19/17 Ohio State, 18-8 on Feb. 23; Marquette later suffered a 17-5 loss to No. 5/4 Notre Dame on April 2 and a 15-4 loss at No. 3/3 Denver later in the week (April 5). Marquette defeated Air Force, 8-6, for the program s first-ever win on March 2. The Falcons, who entered the game with an overall record of 4-1 and whose only previous loss was to No. 4 North Carolina, were receiving votes in both major polls. Smistad, Dvorak & Matt Melnyk tabbed team captains Head coach Joe Amplo announced in early May 2012 that Calgary, Alberta, native Andrew Smistad was named the first team captain in the history of the Marquette men s lacrosse program. A 6-foot-2 defensive midfielder, Smistad was appointed to the leadership role following the team s first year as an organized varsity program in in which MU did not compete. Redshirt sophomore Ben Dvorak (St. Charles, Ill.) and redshirt junior Matt Melnyk (Calgary, Alberta) joined Andrew Smistad at the end of the team s fall season. Head coach Joe Amplo made the announcement in December, prior to holiday break before the 2013 spring semester. All three co-captains have prior NCAA Division I playing experience. MU will play nine games outside the state of Wisconsin before hosting Detroit on April 20 at Hart Park. Marquette s nine consecutive road (or neutral site) games to open this season is the most in NCAA Division I lacrosse, three more than runner-up VMI (6). MU will travel over 11,000 miles before its first home game. In addition to the 2013 home opener on April 20 (Detroit), Marquette is scheduled to play just one other contest at Hart Park; MU welcomes 2010 national champion Duke to Milwaukee in the regular season finale on May preseason sets stage for inaugural campaign Marquette played a total of four exhibition games in early February in advance of its inaugural season. MU traveled to Michigan on Feb. 2 to play the Wolverines followed by a scrimmage vs. Denison. The Golden Eagles then played Hofstra and Penn in Hempstead, N.Y., on Feb. 10. Transfers help Marquette lax blaze a new trail Nearly half of the 25 original members of the Golden Eagles men s lacrosse team who redshirted in transferred into Marquette from another college or university. There are a total of 12 transfers on the MU roster to begin the season. Transfers to Marquette came from: Hofstra (James Raveret, Jerry Nobile, James Raveret; Presbyterian (Matt Melnyk, Tyler Melnyk, Andrew Smistad); Bellarmine (Ben Dvorak); Saint Joseph s (Pat Townsend); Mercer (Taylor Coughlin); Franklin & Marshall (Connor Hewett). Gilligan, Coach Rodgers represent respective national teams Redshirt freshman Tyler Gilligan, a long-stick midfielder from Whitby, Ontario, was named to the U-19 Canadian National Lacrosse Team in 2011 and was one of 24 players to represent the country at the U19 Men s World Championship in Turku, Finland in July Volunteer assistant coach Scott Rodgers has participated in U.S. National Team training events since two-time All-American goalie graduated from Notre Dame in Rodgers most recently played in the 2013 Champion Challenge in January, where Team USA played exhibition games against Loyola and Notre Dame at Disney s Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Marquette active in campus & greater Milwaukee community Keeping in line with Marquette s mission of service, MU head coach Joe Amplo felt the best way for his new program to assimilate with the campus community was through a variety of outreach efforts. Notably, Marquette men s lacrosse has been heavily involved with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and also sponsored a toy drive this past holiday season in which the team donated thousands of dollars of toys and gift cards to the Children s Hospital of Wisconsin. Other community service events MU lax has participated in include: 35th Annual Briggs & Al s Run to benefit Children s Hospital, Hunger Clean Up and Habitat for Humanity. Nick Colleluori Classic a special event for MU & Coach Amplo Marquette traveled to Folsom, Pa., this past October to compete in the Nick Colleluori Classic held at Ridley High School. The event marked the first time that the new varsity lacrosse program went head-to-head against other NCAA Division I competition during the fall exhibition season. MU went on to defeat High Point by a final score of MU s first exhibition games at the Nick Colleluori Classic held special meaning for head coach Joe Amplo, who recruited Colleluori to Hofstra University, where Amplo was a longtime assistant. The event, named after the Ridley High graduate who passed away in 2005 after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, benefits the HEADstrong Foundation.

5 MARQUETTE LACROSSE TIMELINE OF EVENTS The Dawn of a New Era December 16, 2010 Athletic director Steve Cottingham holds a press conference at the Al McGuire Center to announce that Marquette University is adding NCAA Division I men s and women s lacrosse. Marquette also announces that legendary coach Dave Cottle has been hired as as a consultant to help advise during the head coaching search and transition. February 4, 2011 Joe Amplo, associate head coach at Hofstra University, is named the first head coach in the history of the Marquette men s lacrosse program. Cal-Berkeley assistant Meredith Black becomes Marquette s women s lacrosse head coach. May 2, 2011 Former Hofstra standout John Orsen joins the coaching staff as the program s first assistant coach. May 18, 2011 Stephen Brundage is named MU s top assistant, coming from Princeton where he helped run the Tigers offense. July 13, 2011 Coach Amplo announces Marquette s first-ever recruiting class. It consists of 25 individuals, including 12 college transfers, representing 10 different states and two Canadian provinces, who enrolled at MU to train throughout the year while redshirting the season. September 6, 2011 Marquette student-athletes participate their first official lacrosse training session at Valley Fields. 7 Joe Amplo was named the first head coach in Marquette men's lacrosse history on Feb. 4, Amplo comes to Marquette with 11 years of collegiate coaching experience, 10 of which came at his alma mater, Hofstra University. He served as associate head coach with the Pride for three years, and was the team's defensive coordinator. During his time at Hofstra, Amplo participated in 10 NCAA Championships, three as a student-athlete and seven as a coach, the most recent of which came in Amplo joined the Hofstra coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 1999 and remained with the University until 2001 when he took an assistant coaching position at the University of Pennsylvania. After one year at Penn, Amplo returned to Long Island where he remained through the 2011 season. In his first stint with Hofstra, Amplo worked under then-head coach John Danowski, now the coach of 2010 NCAA Champion Duke University. Since his return to Hofstra in 2003, the Pride has posted a record and advanced to five NCAA Championships. He has JOE AMPLO HEAD COACH FIRST SEASON AT MARQUETTE HOFSTRA, 99 coached 53 all-conference players at Hofstra, including five conference players of the year, four rookies of the year and 21 all- Americans. One of those players, Doug Shannahan, earned the Tewaaraton Award in 2001, honoring the top player in college lacrosse. Amplo has also coached another Tewaaraton Award finalist in Chris Unterstein, 13 North-South All-Stars and six USILA Scholar All-Americans. As a student-athlete, he was an All-America East performer as a senior in 1999 when he started all 16 games and led the school to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship. He played in 58 games in his career and notched 91 ground balls, 40 of which came during his senior season. In addition to his work with Hofstra, Amplo is active on the lecture circuit and is the founder and director of the Long Island Classic and Clinic, one of the largest youth and high school tournaments in the nation. He is also the director of the Blue and Gold Lacrosse Camps, which operates on the Hofstra campus. The Farmingville, N.Y., native attended Sachem High School in Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y., where he earned four letters in both lacrosse and football and was an all-conference performer in both sports.
