2 What is Thermodynamics? The study of heat and its transformation into mechanical energy Started with the invention of the steam engine in the 1800 s They wanted to create more efficient and powerful engines and thermodynamics helped them do this Studies the relationship between heat and temperature and how they relate to work and energy Involves chemistry and physics principles
