1 Why d I need these activities? 1 They prmte a sciable atmsphere, and research shws that adults learn better and are mre likely t stick t their curse when the grup dynamic is strng. 2 Peple are far mre likely t retain wrds and phrases they ve used themselves in cntext than nes they ve seen r heard passively. 3 When cncentrating n exchanging specific infrmatin, learners will quickly lse any selfcnsciusness and inhibitins they might have. 4 Repetitin is vital t retaining language but it can be tedius. During these activities key language elements have t be repeated in an interesting and natural way t cmmunicate the required infrmatin. 5 The activities allw an element f chice in the language used and are structured t prepare learners fr the unpredictability inherent t language. They als prvide the pprtunity t include additinal vcabulary relevant t the class. 6 Realising that, even at this early stage, he/she can cmmunicate infrmatin successfully, entirely in Prtuguese, prmtes a great feeling f achievement in the learner and ffers immediate cnfirmatin f prgress. 7 Adults tend t lead busy lives and, given that many classes take place in the evening, may well be tired and stressed befre they even start the class.
