3 Project Goals Identify Anchor institutions in four coastal parishes and create a building footprint, with both address and attribute data: Public Health Facilities (Hospitals, EMS, Clinics) Education (schools, community colleges) Public Safety (Police, Fire, 911, EOC s) Government Offices (Courthouses, Assessor) Community Facilities (Libraries, Churches) Critical Services (groceries, pharmacies, banks)

4 Project Method Choose a Pilot Parish Lafourche 1) Identify the missing data sets; local and external (Federal, state, regional). 2) For parishes w/out GIS, plot the structures to hard copy maps. Work with parish on the manual review process. 4) For parishes with a GIS, provide a geodatabase. Use the web based interface LAGIC created to update. Final Product must conform to USGS & DHS data model

7 Benefits of the Project 1) Relationship with local government, which is essential if this data is to be maintained. 2) Identifying structures has the added benefit of adding to our states Geographic Names Index. Ex: Lafourche Parish 4 post offices, 51 churches & 54 misc. new buildings, total of 109 new entries to the GNIS

13 Different datasets have different pros and cons. Here local data and GNIS data are comparable, TGS data has no record of the church.

14 ESRI TMAP data appears here to be more complete, but is spatially based on geocoded addresses far less accurate than local GPS points.
