1 Report on the organization of the Symposium First Summer School on Molecular Electrochemistry MicroEchem 2014 San Juan del Río, Querétaro, June 29 th July 2 nd, 2014
2 Summary The Symposium First Summer School on Molecular Electrochemistry MicroEchem 2014, was held in Hotel Hacienda la Venta in San Juan del Río, Queretaro, from June 29th July 2nd, MicroEchem 2014 was a sponsored meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry. The Summer School was focused on the analysis of the theoretical background in molecular electrochemistry, through the exposition of different experts on the area, and was presented an overview on the techniques used for the molecular understanding of electrochemical processes. In addition, a Student Meeting was included where a general overview of voltammetric simulation, along with technical details required for molecular electrochemical analysis was presented. On an purely academic point of view, it is known (or at least presumed), that Molecular Electrochemistry provides a broad field to analyze reactive trends for molecular system; however, for students and colleagues working with applications, sometimes is difficult to properly acknowledge the importance of this type of descriptions for further development. Therefore, the next step into building a community with a common interest is this School. Instead of focusing on the most recent research (a topic commonly discussed at larger scientific meetings), the presented talks focused on the tutorial aspects of the topics, along with sharing the experience of renowned and young researchers working with molecular descriptions of electron transfer. In this way, a broad array of subjects were discussed, including reactivity of single molecules, Proton Coupled Electron Transfer, Nanomaterials, Surface Modification or the set-up of a usable Biosensing systems. This short experience provided to the participants alternative points of view of these areas.
3 1. Organization of the meeting The meeting was organized by Dr Carlos Frontana with the assistance of M.Sc. Georgina Armendariz, from the Centro de Investigacion y Desarrollo Tecnologico en Electroquimica, S.C. (CIDETEQ), Mexico. As Co-Sponsors on the organization of the School along with the ISE, we had the participation of the Consejo de Ciencia y Tecnología del Estado de Querétaro (CONCYTEQ), Metrohm- and the Government of the State of Queretaro, via the Secretary of Tourism. In order to spread the information about the school and communicate with the assistants, a web page and were created: (Fig. 1), microechem2014@gmail.com. 4 2. Participants The assistants on the School on molecular electrochemistry were about 30 Students and 20 researchers, from different universities and research institutions in. 3. Tutorial and invited Lectures. The program of the School on molecular electrochemistry consisted only on tutorial and invited lectures (Tables 1 and 2). 4. Book of abstract A book of abstracts was printed and distributed at the beginning of the School, available for all the participants. Fig 2 shows the cover of the book of abstracts. Fig 2.
