(Received 6 September 2000) Abstrak: Pendegradasian diklorodifeniltrikloroetana (DDT) telah dapat dilakukan dalam fasa akueus dibawah sinaran cahaya Ultra Lembayung (UL). Cahaya UL berkuasa 6 W dan mempunyai panjang gelombang 354 nm dipancarkan dari punca lampu fluorescent blacklight ke reaktor bersaiz 55 mm x 15 mm x 70 mm beserta plat mangkin saput tipis titanium dioksida (TiO 2 ). Perbandingan keupayaan pendegradasian DDT dibuat berdasarkan kepada teknik asas fotolisis dan pemangkinanfoto. Penggunaan mangkin TiO 2 dan penggunaan ko-mangkin seperti larutan ion logam [Fe 2+, Co 2+, Cu 2+, Pb 2+ ] serta hidrogen peroksida juga mampu meningkatkan peratus pendegradasian dan mengurangkan masa degradasifoto DDT. Hasil kombinasi seumpama ini memberikan peratus degradasi DDT yang baik. Kombinasi optimum dari sistem UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -Co 2+ mencapai % pendegradasian berbanding dengan sistem kombinasi optimum UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -Fe 2+ yang hanya mencapai % setelah 90 minit masa penyinaran UL. Pemantauan peratus degradasi dilakukan menggunakan perakam spektrofotometer UL- Nampak dan penganalisis jumlah karbon organik. Abstract: Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) degradation was successfully carried out in aqueous phase under ultraviolet light (UV). 6W UV light with a wave length 354 nm was irradiated from a fluorescent black light lamp to a 55 mm x 15 mm x 70 mm size reactor with TiO 2 thin film catalyst. Comparison for the DDT degradation was based on photolysis and photocatalysis. The used of TiO 2 catalyst and metal ion co-catalyst such as Fe 2+, Co 2+, Cu 2+ and Pb 2+ together with hydrogen peroxide increased the percentage and reduced the time needed for DDT photodegradation. These combinations gave a good percentage of degradation. The optimum combination of the UV-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -Co 2+ system achieved % degradation compared to optimum combination of UV-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -Fe 2+, which only gave % after 90 minutes of UV illumination. UV-visible spectrophotometer and total organic carbon analyzer monitored the degradation percentage. Keywords: dichlorodiphenyltrichloroetane (p,p -DDT), photocatalysis, as Fenton reagents reaction Pengenalan Keupayaan mengekalkan tahap kualiti alam sekitar yang baik dewasa kini menjadi perkara pokok dalam sebarang perdebatan alam sekitar. Keupayaan ini semakin tergugat dengan meningkatnya penggunaan bahan kimia, bahan sisa kimia terlarang serta pengeluaran sisa toksik yang terjana hasil daripada proses industri seumpamanya dalam proses pembuatan, pengagihan dan penggunaan di sektor pertanian [1]. Pemuliharaan kualiti alam sekitar secara tradisional adalah melalui kaedah pembakaran tertutup, pemuliharaan biologi, pengozonan dan penjerapan karbon teraktif. Akan tetapi kaedah ini menyebabkan perpindahan sisa toksik dari satu fasa ke fasa lain dan menyebabkan kualiti alam sekitar semakin merosot dan melibatkan kos penyelenggaraan yang tinggi [2]. Oleh itu, satu kaedah alternatif telah diperkenalkan seperti penggunaan kaedah pemangkinanfoto heterogen yang menggunakan semikonduktor titanium dioksida (TiO 2 ). Kaedah perawatan air ini mula diperkenalkan oleh Fujishima dan Honda dalam tahun 1972 [3]. Kaedah perawatan air ini dikenali sebagai proses pengoksidaan termaju (advanced oxidation process AOP) [4] dan ianya berpotensi untuk merawat bahan toksik serta menguraikan komponen organik biologi kepada spesies yang tidak merbahaya seperti ion klorida, CO 2 dan H 2 O. Oleh itu kaedah ini dapat mengurangkan kepekatan bahan tak organik dalam air. Perawatan air menggunakan semikonduktor oksida seperti TiO 2 yang disaput tipis di atas permukaan kaca pyrex selaku pemangkinanfoto heterogen semakin mendapat perhatian kerana ianya boleh digunakan dengan sumber tenaga suria sekaligus menjimatkan kos penggunaan tenaga berbanding kaedah perawatan air berteknologi pengoksidaan yang lazim seperti pengozonan. Kaedah celup angkat yang digunakan bagi penyediaan saput tipis plat mangkin TiO 2 keatas plat penyokong kaca pyrex [5], menghasilkan permukaan yang lutsinar terhadap cahaya UL. Ini memberikan ikatan kimiafizik permukaan yang sangat kukuh diantara zarahzarah TiO 2 serta menyediakan jumlah luas permukaan yang lebih besar. Seterusnya meningkatkan kesan penjerapan bahan organik yang dirawat. Tambahan pula, penyediaannya boleh mengikut rekabentuk reaktor yang digunakan dan bersifat lengai.

2 Hasil kajian awal telah membuktikan keupayaan TiO 2 dalam mendegradasikan bahan kimia organik seperti sebatian organoklorin [6], racun rumpai [7], pewarna [8] dan racun makhluk perosak [9]. Faktor kestabilan, murah, tidak toksik dan tidak mengalami pemfotokakisan menjadikan penggunaan TiO 2 yang juga dikenali sebagai titania dalam pemangkinanfoto seringkali digunakan berbanding dengan semikonduktor yang lain [10-12]. Dari itu, didapati bahawa kaedah perawatan air tercemar secara pemangkinanfoto menggunakan teknik saput tipis TiO 2 ini berpotensi untuk dikembangkan. Penyediaan sol TiO 2. Eksperimen Penyediaan sol TiO 2 adalah berdasarkan kepada kajian yang telah dilakukan oleh Rusmidah [13]. Larutan etanol (600 ml) diaduk dengan pengaduk magnet di dalam kelalang bulat 1000 ml. Polietilena glikol (PEG 2000) (6.0 g) ditambahkan ke dalam etanol tadi dan diaduk secara terus menerus supaya campuran yang homogen terhasil. Titanium tetraisopropoksida (85.2 g) dimasukkan ke dalam kelalang bulat tadi. Larutan terus diaduk. Kemudian dietanolamina (DEA) (31.8 g) ditambahkan sedikit demi sedikit sehingga menghasilkan satu larutan jernih kekuningan yang kelihatan agak likat. Apabila campuran telah stabil, air tersuling tiga kali (TDW) (5.4 ml) ditambahkan. Sol TiO 2 yang disintesis digunakan untuk membuat saput tipis TiO 2. Penyediaan saput tipis TiO 2 Kaca pyrex berbentuk segiempat yang berukuran (45 mm x 45 mm) dengan ketebalan 1 mm digunakan sebagai penyokong saput tipis TiO 2. Saput tipis dibuat melalui kaedah celup angkat. Sol-gel dimasukkan ke dalam bikar (50 ml). Kaca pyrex dicelup ke dalam sol-gel dan diangkat secara perlahan-lahan dan seterusnya dibiarkan kering pada suhu bilik. Pencelupan dan pengeringan diulang sebanyak lima kali untuk memastikan suatu saput tipis yang sekata terbentuk pada permukaan kaca pyrex. Selanjutnya saput tipis TiO 2 dikalsinkan pada suhu Cl CH CCl 3 Rajah 1 : Struktur diklorodifeniltrikloroetana (DDT) Cl 550 C di dalam relau dengan kadar pemanasan 1 C per minit sehingga mencapai suhu 550 C. Pemanasan diteruskan pada suhu 550 C selama satu jam dan dibiarkan menyejuk ke suhu bilik dalam relau. Pengujian mangkin Keberkesanan saput tipis mangkin TiO 2 dikaji berdasarkan kepada keupayaannya dalam mendegradasikan DDT (Rajah 1) di bawah sinaran cahaya UL pada sela masa yang tertentu. Eksperimen dijalankan dalam beberapa keadaan yang berbeza iaitu saput tipis TiO 2, saput tipis TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 dan saput tipis TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -M 2+ (M= Fe, Co, Cu dan Pb). Selain dari itu, ujian kawalan juga dijalankan dengan menyinarkan cahaya UL dan tanpa cahaya UL ke atas larutan stok DDT tanpa plat mangkin TiO 2. Sepanjang eksperimen, kepekatan DDT telah ditetapkan pada 50 ppm (1.4 x 10-4 M). Saput tipis TiO 2 telah dimasukkan ke dalam reaktor bersaiz 55 mm x 15 mm x 70 mm yang mengandungi sampel DDT, H 2 O 2 dan M 2+ sebanyak 40 ml. Kepekatan H 2 O 2 dan M 2+ juga telah ditetapkan diantara 10-2 hingga 10-5 molar bagi setiap pengujian yang dijalankan sebagai kaedah mencari kepekatan yang optimum. Sampel disinari dengan cahaya UL (λ = 354 nm, 6 W). Sampel diaduk sepanjang eksperimen dengan menggunakan pengaduk magnet dan sampel diambil dalam sela masa tertentu untuk dianalisis peratus degradasi DDT dengan menggunakan perakam spektrofotometer UL-Nampak (Ultra Violet-Visible Spectrophotometer - Shimadzu UV1601PC) dan nilai jumlah karbon organik (Shimadzu TOC 500). Hasil dan Perbincangan Keserapan tertinggi bagi menentukan panjang gelombang pada perakaman spektrofotometer UL- Nampak DDT ditentukan daripada ujian kalibrasi (Rajah 2). Satu siri pencairan DDT telah dilakukan dimulai dengan kepekatan larutan stok 50 ppm hingga 10 ppm. Maka dengan itu, kajian ini akan menumpukan pengurangan puncak keserapan pada panjang gelombang nm. Pada awal kajian, degradasi DDT secara fotolisis dilakukan iaitu larutan stok DDT telah disinari dengan cahaya UL. Menurut Matolcsy et. al. [14], apabila kesan suhu yang tinggi dan sinaran UL yang kuat dikenakan keatas DDT, ianya mampu diuraikan ke 2,2-bis(p-klorofenil)-1,1-dikloroetelena (p,p -DDE) dan asid 2,2-bis(p-klorofenil)asetik (p,p - DDA). Setelah dua jam masa penyinaran, didapati peratus degradasi larutan stok DDT menghampiri 50 % dan sepertimana yang dijangkakan, proses degradasi DDT tidak berlaku dalam keadaan tanpa kehadiran cahaya UL. Adriana [15] telah menjalankan satu ujikaji yang mirip dengan kajian ini. Beliau menggunakan serbuk titania dari jenis anatas bagi 316

3 sistem perawatan UL/TiO 2 /O 2 dan hasilnya didapati keupayaan pendegradasian DDT hanya mencapai 85 % dalam masa 150 min. Berbanding dengan penemuan hasil kajian yang telah dijalankan bagi kaedah saput tipis TiO 2 ini, keberkesanan pendegradasian DDT boleh ditingkatkan serta melibatkan proses mineralisasi yang lebih singkat. Rajah 3 menunjukkan hasil awal kajian yang dijalankan yang mana ketiga-tiga kaedah (ujian dalam keadaan gelap, UL tanpa mangkin dan UL beserta mangkin) membuktikan pendegradasian DDT dapat dilakukan dengan adanya sinaran UL dan plat mangkin saput tipis TiO 2. Fenomena perbezaan hasil degradasi DDT ini adalah disebabkan oleh pengaruh spesis radikal hidroksida ( OH). Dalam keadaan gelap, ketiadaan spesis radikal ini menyebabkan DDT didapati stabil tanpa berlaku sebarang pendegradasian. Manakala bagi tindakan pendegradasian beserta UL dan UL bermangkin TiO 2 menunjukkan berlakunya pendegradasian dengan masing-masing memberikan peratus pengurangan % dan 70 %. Ini bermakna secara amnya UL berupaya mendegradasikan DDT dengan menyumbangkan tenaga bagi menghasilkan spesis radikal OH. Spesis radikal ini terhasil apabila pengaruh foton yang lebih tinggi daripada tenaga luang jalur TiO 2 iaitu 3.2 ev (tenaga julat ambang minimum) mengujakan elektron dari jalur valensi ke jalur konduksi berlaku menghasilkan e - pada jalur konduksi dan lubang positif h + pada jalur valensi seperti berikut [11] : TiO 2 + hυ e - + h + (1.1) Seterusnya lubang positif, h + cenderung untuk bertindak balas dengan ion OH - dan molekul air yang terjerap pada permukaan TiO 2 untuk menghasilkan radikal hidroksida mengikut persamaan berikut : OH - + h + OH (1.2) Dalam aktiviti pemangkinan foto, penghasilan radikal hidroksida merupakan mekanisme tindak balas yang paling penting kerana radikal ini bertindak sebagai agen pengoksidaan yang kuat dalam mendegradasikan racun makhluk perosak dan bahan cemar lain. Sementara itu, oksigen terlarut dalam air yang terjerap pada permukaan TiO 2 berupaya untuk memerangkap e - berlebihan bagi mengelakkan proses penggabungan semula e - dan h +, seterusnya membentuk radikal superoksida seperti yang ditunjukkan dalam persamaan berikut : O 2 + e - - O 2 (1.4) - O 2 + H + HO 2 (1.5) Radikal superoksida pula bertindak balas dengan ion H + untuk menghasilkan radikal peroksida yang juga berperanan penting dalam aktiviti pemangkinanfoto TiO 2. H 2 O + h + OH + H + (1.3) Secara umumnya pemilihan teknik pemangkinanfoto heterogen menggunakan semikonduktor TiO 2 berdasarkan kepada faktor sifat mangkin itu sendiri [16]. Pertamanya keupayaan semikonduktor TiO 2 memindahkan bahan reaktan dalam fasa cecair ke 317

4 permukaan TiO 2. Langkah seterusnya adalah menjerapkan sekurang-kurangnya satu bahan reaktan ke atas permukaan TiO 2. Tindakbalas berlaku dalam fasa penjerapan. Akhirnya, penyingkiran bahan sisa atau bahan terbitan ke bentuk sebatian yang paling ringkas berlaku. Kestabilan fotokimia TiO 2 yang tinggi pada sebarang nilai ph membolehkan ia digunakan sebagai mangkinfoto dalam perawatan air [15-17] dan udara [18]. Semikonduktor TiO 2 fasa anatas lebih bersifat fotomangkin berbanding dengan fasa rutil dalam kehadiran oksigen disebabkan proses penggabungan semula e - dan h + yang lebih rendah berbanding dengan fasa rutil. Disamping itu, permukaan fasa anatas yang lebih luas memudahkan OH - yang terjerap pada permukaan memerangkap h + dan seterusnya membentuk OH [15]. Spesis radikal hidroksida inilah yang bertanggungjawab dalam meningkatkan hasil degradasi DDT. Kehadiran hidrogen peroksida (H 2 O 2 ) ternyata turut meningkatkan pemangkinanfoto TiO 2. Namun kepekatan optimum H 2 O 2 yang disyorkan oleh Halmann [17] adalah dalam julat 0.01 M hingga 1x10-4 M. Kehadiran H 2 O 2 yang berlebihan akan bertindak balas dengan TiO 2 untuk menghasilkan Ti(O) 2 (OH) 2 dan Ti(OOH)(OH) 3 yang berupaya menghalang tindak balas pemangkinanfoto. Rajah 4 menunjukkan hasil degradasifoto DDT dengan penambahan pelbagai kepekatan H 2 O 2. Hasilnya, didapati bahawa pada kepekatan H 2 O 2 (1 x 10-4 M) beserta plat mangkin saput tipis TiO 2 dapat meningkatkan peratus degradasi DDT hingga % dengan hasil cerapan TOC % selepas penyinaran UL selama 120 minit Pengurangan DDT (%) M asa (min.) 5 Kehadiran ion logam atau pengendapanfoto spesis logam yang ditambahkan ke dalam tindakan pemangkinanfoto turut meningkatkan hasil degradasi di samping mempercepatkan kadar tindak balas pemangkinanfoto [19]. Sistem perawatan menggunakan ion logam terlarut seperti Fe 2+, Co 2+, Cu 2+ dan Pb 2+ dalam kombinasi UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 turut menunjukkan peratus degradasifoto yang baik malahan turut memainkan peranan dalam mempercepatkan kadar degradasifoto terhadap DDT seperti yang ditunjukkan dalam Rajah 5. Hasil degradasifoto bermangkin dengan ion logam mendapati satu urutan yang menurun dimulai dengan Co 2+ yang mencapai % diikuti dengan Fe 2+ (83.87 %), Pb 2+ (74.56 %) dan Cu 2+ (70.05 %) setelah 90 minit masa penyinaran UL. Hasil degradasifoto secara ini juga didapati lebih baik berbanding dengan kaedah yang dijalankan secara UL beserta plat mangkin TiO 2 (64.14 %) dan UL sahaja (60.00 %) pada masa penyinaran yang sama. Ion logam terlarut berupaya bertindak sebagai pengaut elektron yang teruja apabila TiO 2 disinari dengan cahaya ultra lembayung atau bertindak dengan lubang positif bagi mengelakkan proses penggabungan semula e - dan h + dalam tindak balas redoks berikut [20,21] : M n+ + e - M (n-1)+ (1.6) M n+ + h + M (n+1)+ (1.7) Hasil tindak balas ion logam terlarut beserta dengan kombinasi UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 memberikan urutan Co 2+ > Fe 2+ > Pb 2+ > Cu 2+. Oleh kerana tindak balas redoks terlibat, sepatutnya ion logam yang mempunyai nilai keupayaan penurunan piawai (E 0 SRP) yang lebih besar akan mudah mengalami tindak balas redoks, oleh itu memberikan peratus degradasi yang lebih baik. Jika ditinjau dari nilai SRP, urutan yang sepatutnya adalah Fe 2+ (-0.44 V) < Co 2+ (-0.28 V) < Pb 2+ ( V) < Cu 2+ ( V). Nilai keupayaan pengoksidaan piawai (E 0 SOP) pula memberikan urutan Fe 2+ ( V) > Co 2+ (-1.77 V) > Pb 2+ (1.69 V) > Cu 2+ (-2.33 V). Hasil ujikaji UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -M 2+ yang memberikan urutan Co 2+ > Fe 2+ > Pb 2+ > Cu 2+ menunjukkan keadaan degradasi tidak ditentukan sepenuhnya oleh keupayaan sesuatu ion logam yang mengalami tindak balas redoks. Ia juga dipengaruhi oleh bahan pencemar yang dikaji. Sebagai contoh dalam degradasi parakuat [13], urutan yang diperolehi adalah Fe 2+ > Cu 2+ > > Co 2+, manakala dalam degradasi asulam [20] pula Pb 2+ > Mn 2+ > Cu 2+ > Co 2+ > Fe 2+. Menurut Butler [22], adalah sukar untuk menghubungkaitkan perkaitan penentuan kecekapan aktiviti pemangkinanfoto TiO 2 berdasarkan kepada nilai keupayaan penurunan dan pengoksidaan piawai semata-mata kerana faktor lain seperti jenis bahan organik yang dirawat turut mempengaruhi aktiviti tersebut. Kepekatan ion logam yang digunakan adalah pada 1x10-4 M. Satu perbandingan kombinasi optimum sistem perawatan UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -M 2+ dibuat antara ion logam Fe 2+ dan Co 2+ dengan kepekatan H 2 O 2 dan ion logam ditetapkan pada 1 x 10-4 M. Didapati bahawa hasil degradasifoto ke atas DDT mencapai % bagi kombinasi optimum UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -Fe 2+ manakala bagi kombinasi optimum UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 - Co 2+ mencapai % pendegradasian setelah 120 minit masa penyinaran UL. Hasil degradasifoto yang 319

6 tinggi dalam kedua-dua sistem tidak bermaksud proses mineralisasi DDT berlaku dengan baik. Jadual 1 menunjukkan peratus degradasifoto dan peratus hasil cerapan jumlah karbon organik (TOC) dalam sampel. Jika dibandingkan kedua-dua data ini, sistem perawatan dengan kehadiran ko-mangkin Fe 2+ adalah yang lebih baik kerana tindak balas mengarah kepada pembentukan mineral seperti ion Cl -, H 2 O dan CO 2 adalah lebih cepat. Selepas 120 minit sahaja, terdapat % karbon organik yang masih belum dimineralisasikan berbanding dengan Co 2+ jumlah karbon organiknya kekal %. Penambahan ko-mangkin pada tahap yang optimum seperti kepekatan H 2 O 2 (1 x 10-4 M) dan ion logam terlarut (M 2+ = 1 x 10-4 M) dapat meningkatkan kadar degradasifoto DDT dalam kaedah perawatan ini. Buktinya bagi sistem UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -Co 2+ dapat meningkatkan kadar degradasi sehingga % dan bagi sistem UL-TiO 2 -H 2 O 2 -Fe 2+ mencapai %. Kaedah ini bukan sahaja dapat meningkatkan peratus degradasi DDT tetapi dapat mengubah struktur asal DDT. Tindak balas degradasifoto juga melibatkan proses memineralisasikan sebarang terbitan hasil dari proses degradasi DDT ke bentuk sebatian yang ringkas seperti CO 2, H 2 O, Cl -. Penentuan ini ditunjukan dari cerapan hasil analisis TOC yang telah dilakukan.
