1 How to Use the Devices in the Analytical Instrument Laboratory 1. Eligible users To be eligible, the user must be a member of the faculty or staff, a researcher, or a Waseda University student. If the user is a student, the student is required to obtain the supervising faculty member s approval stamp. 2. Available hours of use Weekdays from 9:00 to 17:00. However, it is closed during the lunch break (12:30 to 13:30). 3. Procedures for making a reservation (If the reservation date is a weekend or holiday, the following weekday will be set as the reservation date) Requests for a reservation will be accepted at the Analytical Instrument Staff Room (Room 304 on the 3rd floor of Building ). Analyzers (excluding the focused ion beam machining device [FIB]) (for 2 weeks) Assemble at 9:30 Users must discuss with other users the date of use for each device they wish to use (No one is granted exclusive use of any device) Fill out the required items on the Application for the Use of a Device and receive a Reservation Slip. Appear at the Staff Room on the day of use. Make sure to bring along the Reservation Slip. (The supervising faculty member s approval stamp is required) After using the device, fill out the required items on the Device Usage Record and the Reservation Slip. Promptly submit the Reservation Slip. (Do not forget the supervising faculty member s approval stamp.) Caution: The Staff Room will only accept requests to process using FIB. The request must be made in person, bringing your sample, during opening hours. Requests made by phone and other similar means will not be accepted.
2 4. Out-of-hours use (As a general rule, no one is allowed to use any of the devices out of hours.) Only users approved by the said Staff Room can use the device out of hours. Before using any device out of hours, the user is required to submit an All-night, Extended, Weekend, or Holiday Use Notification (the supervising faculty member's approval stamp is required) to the appropriate Staff Room. In addition, when using out of hours, it must be used by two or more people to minimize the danger that might result from unexpected accidents, etc. Caution: Any problems arising during out-of-hours use will be the full responsibility of the lab team that was using the room at the time. As a general rule, users from research labs outside Zaiken will not be allowed to use the devices out of hours. If a user from a research lab outside Zaiken wishes to use the devices out of hours for a special reason (for example, for a series of experiments), please submit the Request for Out-of-Hours Use of a Facility in advance. 5. Cautions No smoking, eating, or drinking in the laboratories. No one will be allowed to use more than one device at the same time. When cancelling, make sure to always notify the Staff Room in advance. These are joint use devices. Please clean the device after use. When you have finished, promptly report the fact to the Staff Room. Do not bring any chemicals, high pressure gases, experimental, or other objects into the laboratory without permission.
