2 United States WEEK OF JUNE Suncare +5% Retail implications: Rain and thunderstorms across the Deep South and Southeastern Coast will hamper retail store traffic. Last year, this week was the warmest third week of June since 2012 and the wettest in more than 55 years: Tropical Storm Bill brought flooding to East Texas and Oklahoma. Father s Day in the US was the warmest in over 55 years and the wettest since Central region is hot; the Southeast cooler: A heat wave will envelop the Plains and Southeast as temperatures soar into the 90s, with heat indices in the low 100s. The Central US will be much warmer than last year, but the Southeast will be cooler than last year. The smell of rain: Rain and thunderstorms will move through the Plains before turning to the Deep South and Southeastern Coast. There may be severe weather across these regions. Rain is also expected across the Mid-Atlantic region late in the week. 2

3 United States WEEK OF JUNE Sports Drinks +2% Retail implications: Hot weather across the country will boost sales of seasonal products such as cold drinks, while cooler temperatures in the South will hinder demand across the area. Last year this week, temperatures in the US were above normal, driven by warmth in the West: Rainfall was also above normal, with significant wet weather in the East. Most severe weather reports came from high winds across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and, later in the week, in the Southeast. Heat will build across the country as summer begins: Temperatures will trend above normal from the West across to the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions, although the Pacific Northwest will not be as warm as last year. Cooler in the South: The Dep South will be near normal, but slightly cooler than last year. 3

4 Europe WEEK OF JUNE Knitwear (France) Retail Traffic (Germany) Retail implications: Wetter conditions in many western areas will suppress retail store traffic and result in a shift to online purchasing. Low pressure will set up across Western Europe: There will be rain and thunderstorms on a daily basis from the Atlantic to the Black Sea. A cool week: Much of the continent will be unseasonably cool under persistent cloudiness and rain. Warmer temperatures will develop over Scandinavia then move down into Eastern Europe over the second half of the week. 4

5 Europe WEEK OF JUNE Lemonade (Hungary) Jumpers (Turkey) Retail implications: Demand for seasonal products, such as cold drinks, will increase as summer nears. Warming across Europe: Western Europe will be cooler in the beginning of the week, but warm to above normal as the week progresses. Eastern Europe will remain warm through the week. Dry weather in Western Europe: Rain will shift into Southeastern Europe, while high pressure will bring a drying trend to the West. 5
