Bill Guyton provided some delicious BBQ for the May pitch in dinner. President Brian Crull called the meeting to order and led us in The Pledge of Allegiance. Brian introduced several visitors. Austin Whit a young man from Noblesville, Greg Dickos, Lynn Taylor, and Jay & Sherri Ebert. Please check the calendar since there are occasional exceptions: Noblesville Airport (I80) Promise Road Noblesville, Indiana Brian Crull avmgroup@aol.com 317/ / Treasurer Jeff Hammer was not able to attend the meeting. He forwarded his report showing $ in our account. Our rent for the line shack, a check for the Indy Honor Flight and the money for the Mike Hayden Oshkosh Memorial are still outstanding bills due this month. Brian brought us up to date on our busy upcoming month. The AOPA Regional May 31. Sean White reported over 2500 attended the fly in at San Marcos. He indicated they are expecting over 300 planes at Indy (since updated with 500+ RSVPs). Brian is working out the details for the chapter information tents. At this time we are to meet 6:00AM Saturday morning. Brian will keep us updated on any changes. Pancake breakfast at Noblesville Be sure to sign up to help with the June pancake breakfast. Safety Director Jeff Stultz is working on safety briefings to be held with A/C Marshaling personnel prior to the fly-in. Chapter 34 will have an open house Putnam County airport 5/24 We will be having grilled tenderloins for the June meeting. Respectfully submitted; Allan Grabeman

2 2 HANGAR FLYING Chpt 67 had a 2 day YE Rally at Sheridan Airport this last weekend. Rob Morris and Nick Boland reported we flew kids. They would like to thank all who flew, worked ground crew, did registration, or explaining the benefits of being a Young Eagle. Rob Morris

4 4 Pilot's Tip of the Week Safety Corner: Cruise Flight - Good Habits Featuring Wally Moran - Bob: "Wally I know you've talked about using Flight Following. How about weather updates and additional information as we're cruising? What are some of the available resources to us?" Wally: "As we fly over the airports, it's a very simple task to tune up the ATIS or the AWOS. Most airports have AWOS nowadays. And you might ask: "Why? Why do that? I've already got a weather briefing and I can see the weather is just wonderful below me. There's no reason to listen to that AWOS or to that ATIS." But there are some very good reasons. That engine might just give you a problem. Or a passenger may be a problem in just a moment. You may need to make a precautionary landing. If you've been listening to the weather, you already know which way the wind is blowing. And in the case of the ATIS, you know which runway is active at an airport you might land at. So by staying up to date on these things as you fly by, you're mentally prepared all the time in case you need to land." Bob: "Wally I'm still amazed at how few pilots utilize Flight Watch. What a great resource that's there for us, and yet very underutilized." Wally: "That's for sure. There are all of those resources out there with Flight Service, Flight Watch: there again, options we can use to give us more information. The more information we have the safer our flight is likely to be." Bob: "I also am amazed at how few pilots get and give PIREPs. Weather forecasts are wonderful things. But how about some real real-time data? Pilots in the airline industry - they take it to the next level: Hey how about ride reports, tell us what's going on ahead of us. In General Aviation, we can do the same thing by giving and receiving PIREPs." Wally: "How helpful is it when we're planning our flight to get a PIREP to either confirm what we think about the weather, or not confirm what we think about the weather. And how do those get into the system? Pilots have to give them. So a good airman is always willing to offer up a PIREP to help fellow pilots."

5 5 PRESIDENT S CORNER Brian Crull had a successful ferry flight from Germany to Florida. He said Greenland was very interesting. Landing in Narsarsuaq Greenland was fun. Winds 40kts with gusts to 53kts. Sigmet for severe turbulence below 9000 ft.!!! We are just weeks from the first Chapter Pancake Breakfast Fly In of the season on June 14. We expect to have a huge turn out because of the amount of promotion we will have done at both the AOPA Regional Fly In and the Tom Wood/Metro Airport Open house and Warbird Expo. If you have not signed up to help in some way during this event there is still plenty of areas where your help is needed. The AOPA Fly In is Saturday May 31 at the Indianapolis Regional Airport. As all of you are aware by now, the local EAA Chapters will be putting on the Pancake Breakfast that morning. Many of the local Chapters will be helping out along with members from the Lilly Aviation group. In total there should be about 35 people to help mix, cook and serve the pancakes and sausages. The numbers are pointing towards a Huge turnout for this event. I am told we can expect to have about 700 people attend the breakfast. At last count there are close to 525 planes that have RSVP'd to fly in that day. That is a lot of planes! If you are planning on working the AOPA event. they ask that all volunteers arrive by 6 am. The breakfast is being held in the McClure hangar, which is the large dark gray hangar just to the west of the Indy Jet hangars. I am assuming they will have the car parking marked so you will know where to park. The breakfast is scheduled to begin at 8:30 and go till 10:00. That is a short window to serve that many people but they know it can be done after doing it at the first event in San Marcos TX. I will see many of you at the AOPA event and even more of you at the June Meeting on Monday June 2. Entree for June will be grilled Tenderloins with Jeff Hammer and Allan Grabeman manning the grill.
