If you have not registered your dog(s) please contact the City Office to get them registered. Pursuant to Ordinance No. 200D: Any dog over six months of age owned and kept within the city must be annually registered with the City Clerk. A current completed certificate of immunization against rabies is required for registration. A $25 fine will be assessed if dogs are not registered within 30 days of the dog clinic. 2 SUMMERFEST-AUGUST 5 TH, 2017 Enclosed with this newsletter is a Newsletter from the Dwight Community Development Corporation that includes information about Summerfest and other activities. T-shirts will be available for sale at the Annual Memorial Day Dinner on May 29 th and at Summerfest for $15. Some events that will be at Summerfest include: 8 AM 5K Run/Walk, 10AM Parade, Car Show, Fort Riley Band & Concert, DJ Dance 8-11PM, Antique Tractor Auction, Local Music at City Park Shelter House, Kid s games at 1 PM, Fine Arts Show & Activities at the old Grocery Store, Bingo, Horse Shoes, Mini Train, Historic Encampment at Park, Wildlife Exhibit, History in a Trunk and Cancer Screening from 9AM-Noon in the Dwight Library. On Sunday, August 6 th a Community Worship service will be held at 10 AM with a potluck following. All are welcome to attend! Contact the City Office for more info. P A Y M E N T O P T I O N S There are several ways to make your payment to the City. We have a dropbox outside the office located at 612 Main. Residents can pay online by credit/debit card by visiting our website and select make a payment. The City Clerk is also available to accept payments (check, cash, credit/debit card) during office hours. AUTOMATIC PAYMENTS Did you know that your Utility Payment can be automatically drafted from your FARMER S STATE BANK IN DWIGHT bank account? There is no fee to do this. Your payment will be taken out on the 15 th of each month. Forms available at the City Office! 3 DWIGHT LIBRARY The Dwight Library has high speed internet available to use for FREE! Anyone is allowed to use the computer during Library hours. The Library is open: Mondays 9 to 10 AM Wednesdays 10-Noon and 1:30-4:30 Saturdays 10-Noon and 1-3 Library Phone #: *Check our website for monthly updates on new books at the Library! TRASH RATE INCREASE The City of Dwight has a contract with Superior Systems that requires a cost of living evaluation each year. This year the increase was 1.5%. This means your trash charge will be raised from $13.56 to $13.76 per month. CONSUMER CONFIDENCE REPORT The Consumer Confidence Report is available on our website under Water Quality. This report is a snapshot of the quality of the water that we provided last year. DWIGHT LIBRARY-DONATIONS OF MOVIES ARE NEEDED. The regularly scheduled sewer maintenance will take place on June 6th. This year, the North- Central section is scheduled. If the sewer main servicing your property will be cleaned, you will be notified a few days before with instructions.

4 ELECTION The deadline for filing to run for City Office is Tuesday, June 1st at noon. The positions that will be elected are Mayor and two Councilmembers. The requirements to file for a Council position are either $20.00 or the signatures of five individuals who are registered to vote in Dwight. The paperwork must be turn ed into the County Clerk in Council Grove by noon on June 1 st. If needed, a Primary Election will be held on August 1 st, The General Election will be held on November 7, WEEDS Please check our website and review the City s weed Ordinance. The nuisance as defined by Ordinance No mentioned here includes: 1. Weeds and grasses on or about residential property which, because of its height, has a blighting effect on the neighborhood. Any such weeds shall be presumed to be blighting if they exceed 8 inches in height. ROAD CONSTRUCTION Construction on Highway 57 between I-70 and Dwight will begin sometime in August by Kansas Department of Transportation. Just a heads up! WEATHER SAFETY The tornado siren in Dwight is controlled by the Morris County Emergency Management. It will be sounded only when rotation has been sighted or the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado warning for our area. Once the siren has sounded, you have less than five minutes to take cover. Please take precautions by listening to your radio or television for watches or warnings. A second siren DOES NOT mean all clear it means another storm is approaching. You should be prepared with an emergency supply kit. The following is an emergency supply list as recommended by FEMA: *WATER-one gallon of water per person, per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation. *FOOD-at least a three day supply of non-perishable food. *BATTERIES-for flashlights, weather radios, etc. *FIRST AID KIT *WHISTLE-to signal for help *HAND-HELD CAN OPENER-for food
