2 Events Public Star Parties at Panorama Park Bluffs What is a star party? Every spring through fall, the Kern Astronomical Society puts on monthly star parties, these are open to everyone in our community. The purpose of these events is observing and teaching the public about amateur astronomy. This is also a great time for new members to ask questions and learn telescope set ups, and usage. Even if you don t have a telescope there will be many available to you. Kern Astronomical has an inventory of telescopes for members to check out, and so we ask if you currently have one of our club scopes that you please bring them to these events. Publish On Our Newsletter Now through December we invite our members to submit their best astrophotography work, and we ll publish it on the Syzygy. With your submission please write a short description of your work, and title. Please also describe how you shot or created the image, such as equipment, and date of image. You can also include how long the image capture took, so you may also include a series of images of the same object. Awards will be given at December dinner. Questions? please contact newsletter editor. The Panorama park is located in front of Bakersfield College, our site is right across the street from green lawn cemetery, corner of Panorama Dr and Linden Ave. We are on site from 8pm to 10pm, and set up beings at 7:30pm. Feel free to invite anyone.

3 Join us Saturday July 7 th for Open Meeting! This year we will be having a July meeting, unlike past years. We hope those who are attending the festival come to this meeting. We will be discussing some last-minute details and hope to answer any questions. We hope to coordinate the star party by having suggestions on object viewing. This will also be a good time for everyone to discuss schedules, and meet anyone you would like to caravan with. Sequoia Dark Sky July 21 st 23 rd : Dark Sky Festival, Star Party by KAS Saturday July 22 nd Our biggest event of the year is this month, the 4 th annual Dark Sky Festival. If you signed up for this event you will get free camping and free camp entry. Our campground is Wolverton, which will be closed off to the public but still very close to Lodgepole and Wasachie Lodge. We will be hosting the main event Saturday July 22 nd, so we encourage everyone to take their scope and especially club scopes because hundreds of people attend this event.
