Please follow the format and style in the below template. The abstract should not be exceeding 3-A4 pages (210mm x 297mm), including Figures, Table and References. Page margins are 25mm all around. Please use font Time New Roman, single space lines. Title is capitalized, bolded and 14pt followed by one blank line. Authors are 12pt, the presenting author is underlined. Authors affiliations are 11pt and italic. Contact is in a separate line. Abstract text (12pt) in paragraphs is not indented. References are not required, but if necessary, they should be indicated in the text in brackets and listed at the end of the paper (12 points) (e.g., Scott et al., 20013). 4 GUIDE FOR ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATION Oral presentations should be in PowerPoint or PDF format (<20Mb), and must be sent to address at least 3 days prior to the Symposium opening for arrangement. Invited lectures are given 30 minutes, including 5 to 10 minutes for Q&A. Oral presentations are 15 minute, including 3 minutes Q&A. Poster size is A0, e.g. 120cm high by 90cm wide. All the posters are requested to present at assigned slots from the morning of Nov 7, 2013, and be removed by noon of Nov 9, Poster presenters are asked to present at least an hour during the poster session. PUBLICATION Symposium publication will include: - Symposium Program and Proceedings Volume containing the Extended Abstract in English - Field Excursion Guidebook (in English) - Special issue in Russian Geology and Geophysics (being planned) REGISTRATION FEE Registration fee is $75US for senior and $25US for student participants. The fee will cover all the handout materials (program and proceedings volume), welcome party, coffee breaks and lunch boxes throughout the symposium. Registration fee may be considered for exemption or reduction should participants send in request letters. FIELD EXCURSION (Optional) Field excursion fee is $150US to cover meals, hotel rooms and transportation during the three- day trip. The excursion route is Hanoi Hoa Binh Son La Hanoi, covering about 750 km, including tens of stops during the three-day course. 1. Day one: Hoa Binh Province Hoa Binh hydropower dam (or Cun Pass), one of the largest dams in SE Asia, to survey outcrops of Permian Triassic high-titanium basalts, and Song Da (Black River) late Paleozoic early Mesozoic continental rift; enjoy the Muong Ethnic culture and crisscross caves in limestone terrains in the Mai Chau district area. 2. Day two: Son La Province To inspect the Son La Quynh Nhai geological cross section including high-titanium aphyric basalts (Son La Pass), layered mafic bodies ranging from basalt to komatiite, and
5 high-titanium trachybasalt and trachyrhyolite; view the newly built Son La hydropower dam and participate in local ethnic minority s cultural activities. 3. Day three: Son La - Hanoi Survey Son La Deo Chen (Chen Pass) Phu Yen Hanoi magmatic complexes. These include volcanic, mafic and ultramafic intrusive bodies. Participants are welcome to visit and sample Ban Phuc Cu-Ni-bearing PGE mine. (Details about the field excursion will be given a guidebook at the symposium) FEE PAYMENT Payment should be done online/on site, otherwise please contact the Executive Secretaries for payment guidance. Payment can be transfer to account of IGS in Vietcombank, Vietnam Account name: Vien Dia Chat Account No.: , Hoang Quoc Viet Branch, Vietcombank, Hanoi, Vietnam CANCELLATION Cancellation must be made in writing to the Executive Secretaries before October 15, ACCOMMONDATION Room rates in Hanoi are relatively reasonable, ranging from $25US (guesthouse) up to $75US (three-star hotel) for double occupancy. There are a number of hotels and guesthouses within walking distance to the Institute of Geological Sciences. Participants are advised to contact the secretaries for accommodation arrangement or more detail in GENERAL INFORMATION Language Official language at the Symposium is English; however, those who are not comfortable with the language please contact the Organizers for English translation arrangement. Weather Hanoi in November is rather pleasant with temperatures between 18 and 25ºC, but in the northwestern Vietnam, where the field excursion is going to be, may be cold (10 to 20ºC) with occasionally light rain. Participants are advised to bring along a light sweater and jacket. For field excursion participants please have a pair of hiking shoes, an umbrella, and field work clothes ready. Travel The Symposium organizers will have people at Noi Bai International Airport to help arriving participants; but the following information may be useful. It costs about $20US by taxi to travel from the airport to downtown Hanoi. To avoid being overcharged, participants are strongly advised to get in a cabonly at the taxi stand. Please print out your hotel name to show the taxi driver. It is highly advised that participants have some Vietnamese currency or small US-dollar bills forehand to pay for the trip. At present, one US dollar is 21,250VND.
6 For your safety please inform Symposium Organizers about your arriving itinerary in advance. Traffic in Hanoi is chaotic and dangerous; participants are strictly advised that they be cautious when crossing the street. Visa Most foreign participants will be required to have a visa to enter Vietnam. ASEAN, South Korean and Japanese participants do not need a Vietnamese visa. For other nationals please contact the nearest Vietnamese Embassy to find out if visa is required. As Vietnam is appealing for tourism, participants may apply for a visa as a tourist. However, participants can ask for an invitation letter from the Executive Secretaries should they need one. Depending on the participants nationality, the visa issuing process will not take more than a week.
