1 ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GENERAL RULES You are invited to send your abstract to the 2nd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress. Please read carefully the following guidelines before sending the abstract. All Symposia will include invited lectures, Oral Communications and Poster Sessions. The Symposia Conveners will evaluate the submissions and select a limited number of Abstracts for 15-minutes Oral Communications (discussion included) during the relevant Symposia. Poster Sessions are a very important and integral part of the Congress and they will be given ample space and time every day during lunch time and in the late afternoon. The posters are exhibited during the whole Congress. Participants are kindly invited to submit Abstracts to all Symposia. After evaluation and approval by the Conveners of the Symposia, the authors will be notified of the detailed arrangements. Abstracts may only be submitted electronically through the Congress website via the on-line Abstract submission system, using a pdf file (as explained below). Please, do not submit multiple copies of the same Abstract. Abstracts sent by , mail or fax will not be accepted. In case of difficulties please contact the. No change in the pdf document will be possible after the abstract submission deadline, 31st March Please, be aware that each presenting author must be registered to the Congress. Only the abstracts of authors who have registered and paid the registration fee by 31st May 2008 will receive final acceptance and will be included in the Final Programme and Book of Abstracts. Abstracts must contain original investigations. The responsibility for the Abstract content is solely of the author(s). The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the Abstract before submission.
2 Information about the acceptance of the Abstract will be sent to the submitting author by in May. Abstract Submission Guidelines Enter the online abstract submission form and fill in all the required fields. Abstracts must be written in English. Please indicate the title of the Symposium where you would like to submit your abstract, indicating its number (see the numbering), and supply three keywords for the index. If you feel your paper does not fit with one of the symposia, indicate the number of the Theme followed with.0 (i. e., 1.0, 6.0 ) that corresponds to it. Please note that only abstracts corresponding to the symposia are eligible for oral presentation. The abstract has to be submitted as "authorlastname.pdf" file; if the same author submits more than one abstract, numbering should follow the author last name. To generate the pdf file you may use Acrobat Distiller. ( If this program is not available on your computer, there are several simple to use freeware available for download. Two frequently used sites are pdf995 ( and cute ( Name and source of any software is mentioned without endorsement or taking responsibility for it. The maximum size of the abstract is strictly limited to one A4 page (which will be reduced to a quarter of page in the Book of Abstracts: take care of this while choosing possible tables or images). All abbreviations must be defined before being used in the text. References should be restricted to those necessary for the comprehension of the abstract. Reference numbers should be placed at the appropriate point(s) in the text. Formatting Font to be used: Times New Roman. Type size: 12 for Title, 11 for authors and text, 10 for references. Style: bold for title, plain for authors and text, italics for Affiliation. Alignment: justified. Line spacing: single Margins: all 2cm Title
3 The title should be written in capitals using Times New Roman font, type size 12 (Sample: "RADICAL REACTIVITY IN TRANSITION METAL CHEMISTRY"). Elsewhere sentence capitalization should be used throughout, i.e. authors, keywords (Sample: "Inclusion complexes, Supramolecular chemistry") etc. Author(s) Author(s) name should be written using Times New Roman font, type size 11, in the following way: First Author (Family Name, Name); Second Author (Family Name, Name);. Please, underline the presenting author. Affiliation First Author (Institution, City, Country); Affiliation Second Author (Institution, City, Country);. Presenting author Text of the Abstract: Although presentation of published results would be important for discussions, incorporating new results is highly encouraged. The text should include: Objectives: state the primary objective of the paper and the major hypothesis tested (if appropriate) Methods: state the materials employed and the procedures followed. Results: state the analytic strategies employed and the main results of the study; numerical data may be included but should be kept to a minimum. Conclusions: state the conclusions that can be drawn from the study, including theoretical, methodological, or applied/policy implications as appropriate. The title, names and affiliations of the authors must be exactly as in the example. NO EDITING of the abstracts will be provided by the Scientific/Organising Committee; therefore, the authors take full responsibility for the optical appearance, spelling, grammar and legibility of tables and figures of their contribution.

5 GAS-PHASE ION CHEMISTRY OF NF 3 /GeH 4 SYSTEM Operti, Lorenza; Rabezzana, Roberto; Turco, Francesca; Vaglio, Gian Angelo. Dipartimento di Chimica Generale ed Organica Applicata, Università degli Studi di Torino, Corso Massimo d Azeglio 48, Torino, Italy. roberto.rabezzana@unito.it Nitrogen trifluoride, NF 3, is extensively used in the electronic industry to perform etching and cleaning processes. 1 Compared with more traditional fluorinated gases such as CF 4 and C 2 F 6, NF 3 offers advantages of shorter atmospheric lifetime and avoidance of carbon contamination residues. During the industrial runs, pure or diluted NF 3 is dissociated, usually by microwave discharge, to generate neutral and ionic species which strongly affect the outcome of the final process. In particular, it has been recently proposed to use mixtures of NF 3 and GeH 4 to clean semiconductor surfaces. 2 The outcome of the final process strictly depends on the relative abundance of the two components, and it is of interest to explore the conceivable role of the primary and secondary neutrals and ions which arise from the fragmentation of NF 3 and GeH 4. We have performed an experimental study on the chemistry of ionized mixtures of NF 3 and GeH 4, comparison with theoretical data reveal mechanism of some observed reactions. Experiments were run by ion trap mass spectrometry, ions were isolated and kept in the trap for increasing times in order to observe the trend of products generated from reactions of primary ions with neutral species. From primary ions (NF x +, GeH x + ) several reaction paths were observed, the most important are charge transfer for primary ions from NF 3 and condensation with loss of neutral fragment for primary ions from GeH 4. Rate constants of reactions were also determined and their efficiency calculated, relatively to theoretical collisional constant. Both are not very high for all reactions, with exception of the one between Ge + and NF 3. All observed reactions evolve in a single couple of products with exception of the reaction between GeH + and NF 3 which evolves in two different paths: GeF + + [H,N,F 2 ] or GeFH + + NF 2, both reactions are very slow and rate constants are not measurable. Theoretical calculations were performed by Paola Antoniotti and Felice Grandinetti s group. They studied reaction mechanisms of most important reactions and found critical and saddle points on the potential energy surfaces. 1. Ishii, F.; Kita, Y., in: Advanced Inorganic Fluorides (Eds.: T.
