1 The Third International Symposium of the International Geoscience Programme Project 589 Development of the Asian Tethyan Realm: Genesis, Process and Outcomes Tehran, Iran, October 2014 Third Circular Invitation & Aim Tethys seems to be an everlasting theme for geological studies. Its development is such a complicated problem that it remains far from being clarified. The present project is aimed to find out more constraints on the interpretation of development of the Asian Tethyan Realm and to contribute to elucidate the history of the Tethys, by carrying out multi-disciplinary investigations in related areas. The project also seeks to unite geoscientists who have long been working in these areas, or recently become interested in this subject, or would like to start their career with a try in this field. Together we are stronger! The Third International Symposium of IGCP-589 is going to be held in Tehran, Iran in Late October It provides a forum where colleagues from different countries can present their work and discuss their ideas covering various aspects of the development of the Asian Tethyan Realm. The Pre- and post-symposium excursions - geological transverses of the Alborz orogen and Central Iran - will provide a chance for participants to examine the geology and tectonics closely related to the development of Tethys in these regions. The Symposium is under the sponsorship of the Iran National Committee for the International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) in collaboration with Geological Survey of Iran. You are cordially invited to participate in the symposium. Your contributions will be highly appreciated. Welcome to Tehran, a city of light and glamour..
