2 Introduction GMES4Mining R&D-Project started in August 2011, finished end of 2015 Supported with funds from EU and Northrine-Westphalia Consortium: joint project with four partners from industries and universities: EFTAS, DMT, Uni Aachen, Uni Münster Budget > Many Tasks in Mining Life Cycle Motivation Improving Infrastructure and Methods for Remote Sensing and Earth Observation: GMES/Copernicus Basis: User Requirements Conducted by ISM (Institute for Mine Surveying in Aachen) with excellent international contacts User Survey: Questionnaire sent to 50 companies, 21 responses The majority of mining companies use some type of remote sensing data and techniques There is a high demand to apply recent remote sensing methods based on multispectral, hyperspectral and radar data 2

8 Conclusion / Outlook GMES4Mining shows that several tasks within the mining lifecycle can be supported by services using remote sensing components There is a demand for enhanced methods and sensors in this area We noticed an exceedingly great interest in services in the mining area, especially in services based on satellite data 8
