2 Implementation Status and Key Decisions The Greater Maputo Water Supply Project was approved by the World Bank Board of Directors on 25 July, The project development objective is to increase access to clean water for residents in the Greater Maputo Area (GMA). It is expected to benefit approximately 100,000 households in the GMA who will be directly connected to the formal water supply system and will be able to receive treated, piped water. The financing agreement between the Government and the Bank was signed January 31, Project was declared effective on July 29, The project s first disbursement was on January 31, The project is progressing well, despite some delays on the procurement of the treatment plant construction. Currently, 40% of the transmission main construction works have been completed. The procurement process for the treatment plant was cancelled, following a long complaint resolution process and expiry of bid validity for the remaining eligible bidder. FIPAG is making effort to expedite the new bidding process to reduce the time lag between the completion of the transmission main and the treatment plant. 12/29/2017 Page 2 of 7
