4 I 1s-12 I, North Carolina, Deed Book F:195 Thomas Pucket to John Stuthards Thomas Puckett to John Stuthards. A Deed. This indenture made and done this eighth day of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety five between Thomas Pucket of the one part and John Stuthards of the other part both of the of and State of North Carolina- witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of thirty five pounds to him in hand paid by the said John Stuthards to the said Thomas Pucket receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged that the said Thomas Pucket hath given, granted, bargained and sold unto the said John Stuthards to him and his heirs forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county aforesaid on the head Flat Shole [Shoal] Creek beginning at a marked red oak and runs West twenty one chains and seventy five links to a chestnut oak and thence South forty six chains and fifty links thence East twenty one chains and seventy five links to a post thence North forty six chains and fifty links to the beginning, it being part of a tract of land containing two hundred and twenty acres, to have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises and all rights and privileges and clear of all incumbrances to the same in any wise belonging to him the said John Stuthards his heirs and assigns forever and the said Thomas Pucket for himself his heirs and assigns doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said John Stuthards that the John Stuthards his heirs and assigns shall and may forever after peaceably and quietly have, occupy and enjoy and possess the afore granted land and premises without let or molestation of any person whatsoever and the same Thomas Pucket doth oblige himself his heirs and assigns to warrant & defend the afore granted land and premises to him the said John Stuthards, his heirs and assigns forever against the said Thomas Pucket and his heirs or executors or any of them. Notes: 1. There was more than one man in the community by the name of Richard Studdard, but this was probably the Richard Studdard of this study. Shortly after this he removed from the state. 2. This indenture made the second day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four, between Richard Studdard of the of Stokes in the State of North Carolina of the one part and Thomas Campbell of the and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Richard Studdard for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars money to him in hand paid by the said Thomas Campbell, the receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged by the said Richard Studdard and himself therewith fully satisfied and paid, and therefore, he the said Richard Studdard hath granted, bargained, sold and delivered and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell and deliver in fee simple unto the said Thomas Campbell a certain tract or piece of land lying and being in the said state of North Carolina in the of on the head of Flat Shoal Creek beginning at a marked red oak, running thence West twenty one chains and seventy five links to a chesnut [sic] oak thence South forty-six chains and fifty links, thence East twenty-one chains and seventy-four links to a post, thence North forty-six chains and fifty links to the beginning containing one hundred and one acres and twenty-two poles, be the same more or less, which said piece of land the said Richard Studdard obtained hereditarily, it being part of the estate of his father John Studdard deceased, and was purchased by said John Studdard from Thomas Puckett by a deed bearing the date the eighth day of February AD Registered in the Registers Office in book F page 195. To Have and to hold unto the said Thomas Campbell the above described land and premises, with all the appurtenances, rights, titles and improvements with every article thereunto belonging. To hold to the said Thomas Campbell, his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Richard Studdard doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said Thomas Campbell, that he the said Thomas Campbell, his heirs and assigns shall and may forever hereafter peaceably and quietly, have, hold, occupy, possess and enjoy the aforesaid granted land and premises without hindrance, molestation or any kind of incumbrance from him the said Richard Studdard, his heirs, Executors or Administrators, binding and obligating himself and every of them, the said land and premises, against themselves and every of them and against all and every other person or persons whatever, unto the said Thomas Campbell, his heirs and assigns to warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof the said Richard Studdard hereunto sets his hand and seal the day and date first above written. [?] J. Williams CC The original tract that John Studdard purchased from Thomas Puckett contained two hundred twenty acres. As this transaction is for only one hundred and one acres, it is not known what the disposition of the remaining original tract was. Some possibilities are that part may have gone to the widow or to another child, or Richard may have disposed of it to someone else.
