1 The ANANIAS R. TINGLE Line by B. L. Taylor The following births, marriages and deaths are taken from the original Tingle Family Bible which is in the Delaware State Genealogy Archives in Dover DE, of which I have a xerox copy. J. Seeger Kerns, the former editor of the Tingle Newsletter, apparently did this typed copy which I scanned. He was gracious enough to send me the more readable copy than the original, and I am now posting it for anyone who is interested. As the records attest, Ananias R. Tingle was born in March of 1797, almost at the turn of a new century. I believe his mother, Elizabeth, died in July of that year, leaving him a half orphan. His father William was a land owner as attested to by the tax records of early DE, an area hotly contested by both Maryland and Delaware until the dispute was settled with the Mason-Dixon Line. Hugh, when he was an old man, once drove a brass nail into a tree, and that was later used to set part of the southern boundary of the Line. One interesting story about him was when the old original Sound Church was to be torn down to build another one, Ananias Tingle hauled it away and turned it into a hay barn on his farm. A family history is so often made up of innuendo, rumor and sometimes actual facts. One of the rumors I heard, growing up, was that somewhere back in this line, the Tingles once were a part of the King's Royal Horse Guard. If anyone can ever verify such a thing, I would be interested in hearing about it. Ananias and family were from the Williamsville area, and may be part of the Hugh Tingle decendency although I have not been able to make the connection. William s father, I believe, was Israel Tingle and his wife was Parthena Robinson Tingle. That's obviously where Ananias came by the middle initial R which actually did stand for Robinson. He married Elizabeth Derickson, daughter of Handy Derickson, when he was twenty-two, and fathered nine children. Elizabeth died when she was fifty and Ananias took another wife, Mary Hudson, who presented him with five more children. Not all of them are listed in this record of the Bible. A second Ananias Roberson Tingle was born the 28th of February of 1866 and Lovimal E. H. Tingle was born in 1870, two years before Ananias died. Mary lived to be over 90 years old. Samuel, from whom I am a descendant, died on May 6, 1924, in Salisbury, MD at the age of 69. His son Charles Lester Tingle lived to be 84.
