11 Virginia Tech Policy #5617 Security Cameras Virginia Tech is committed to enhancing the quality of life of the campus community by integrating the best practices for safety and security with technology. Surveillance of public areas is intended to deter crime and assist in protecting the safety and property of the Virginia Tech community. The policy: Formalizes procedures for the installation of surveillance equipment and the handling, viewing, retention, dissemination, and destruction of surveillance records. Regulates the use of camera systems used to observe and record public areas for the purposes of safety and security. Does not imply or guarantee that cameras will be monitored in real time 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 12 CCSR Planning Grant: Situational Awareness via Video Analytics: incorporating video metadata into 3D models Integrating video footage with geospatial data can enhance the interpretation of information contained in the video. By calibrating video camera footage, a mapping between video frame coordinates and real-world geospatial coordinates is established. 17 IPV6 Unique Challenges for Cyber-security In 2010, Virginia Tech was ranked by Google as one of the largest deployments worldwide, #3 in the world behind France and China. Globally reachable by IPv6, Virginia Tech faculty are able to conduct research around the world using IPv6-only networks. Virginia Tech offers both IPv4 with private addressing and IPv6, on a "dual-stack" network, and plans to do so for the foreseeable future. Our Security Office invented a Moving Target IPv6 Defense that dynamically obscures network and transport layer addresses of data packets to achieve anonymity, including authentication privacy. It also protects against certain classes of network attacks.
