2 Context of MET in SESAR1 & Deployment The most significant changes to be made are the way MET information is exchanged, displayed and integrated into decision support. Development of enhanced MET information services for pan-european aviation, key features are a consistent and harmonised weather picture for our region (irrespective of MET provider) MET Information Services tailored to specific ATM operational applications, ready for integration into those systems

3 4D Weather Cube and MET-GATE

4 4DWxCube is designed specifically for European aviation; MET-GATE is the publishing and searching function. It will allow intelligent access to MET information in support of SWIM services. Supports consolidation and is harmonised (between European NMS) forecast information, facilitating common situational awareness between aviation stakeholders. The MET-GATE a one stop shop for all your MET requirements

5 MET Information Services So what MET information could be accessed in this way? SWIM Global Demo showed how existing MET, such as TAF, METAR, SIGMET etc could be published and accessed. SWIM Masterclass, TOPLINK & SESAR1 validations showcased new Harmonised & Consolidated Services with European coverage: - Observations - 3D Weather radar composite for Europe - Weather Hazard Forecasts - Convection (high resolution) - Icing (in-flight) - Turbulence (in-flight) and local Airport Weather: - Winter weather - Local forecasts (very high resolution) incorporating in-flight observations

6 Consolidation and translation provides MET information by authorised MET providers Common & harmonised MET information Consistent seamless MET information Enhanced Observation and Forecasting Capabilities MET information based on latest science MET information with highest performance scores Translated MET information for specific aviation needs Support to manage uncertainty of MET forecasts

7 Radar composite ~200 radars in EU with diverse specifications are harmonised in one radar composite (OPERA) 3D identification helps identify hotspots in the TMA 3D Convection

13 Ongoing SESAR Deployment Projects Initial WXXM Implementation on Belgocontrol systems: IWXXM compliant Belgian OPMET data Generation Upgrade of ICAO Regional OPMET DataBank in Brussels to enable IWXXM OPMET data requests Upgrade of AMHS to handle IWXXM messages Operational in June 2017 (IWXXM v2.0) Implementation of NewPENS & SWIM nodes Connection to NewPENS (by end 2018) Migration of applications to NewPENS (by end 2020) 13

16 Key Improvements for Airspace Users On-time delivery of IWXXM services and products natively produced well before 2019 deadline from Northern European countries Nordic Significant Weather Chart (SWC) as GML contours (or weather objects) with features available individually in SWIMcompliant format SESAR1 and TOPLINK Winter Weather products in SWIMcompliant form: probability of freezing precipitation, de-icing index and winter weather conditions contour available
