6 Sharing Core Services and Infrastructure ZAMG operates the basic synoptic network with mostly automated stations, one radiosonde, NWP activities Strong competence in environmental, societal and public weather service domains Austrocontrol provides observations at airports and selected points along routes Operates weather radar network and 3 radiosondes (contract with military Met service) Joint use of external lightning detection system

11 Risks and Challenges Increasing pressure to centralize and harmonize services for en-route traffic Need to add significant value for users over complex terrain and high density airspace Legacy, Annex -3 regulated services mostly in text form being slowly superseded by user-specific digitized information Need to develop scientific tools and concepts for a harsher environment in a changing climate
