On many f these flights, the astrnauts landed and walked n the Mn s surfae. They tk samples f Mn rks and perfrmed many sientifi experiments. But sine their xygen supply was limited, they uld nly walk abut 1 km (% rnrle) away frm their 52 / Designing Vehiles t Meet Requirements spaeraft. Many plaes they wanted t investigate were t far away. T help the astrnauts in their wrk n the mn, engineers designed a vehile alled the Lunar Rver. It was big enugh t hld tw astrnauts, their equipment, and many samples f Mn rks. What were the Lunar Rver's deslgn requirements? First f all, the Lunar Rver had t be light enugh s that a rket uld lift it ff arth. The Rver weighed 21 kg (462 lb) n arth. It nly weighed 35 kg (77 lb) n the Mn.
