5 General urpose phase Induction otors IROUCIO ew efficiency classes for the lowvoltage threephase motors (I = International fficiency). long with the international discussion on energy efficiency a worldwide harmonized energy efficiency standard classification system has been established for lowvoltage threephase asynchronous motors. or many years lowvoltage threephase motors in the uropean Union have been sold in three efficiency classes, and. side from this, many different efficiency classification systems have been introduced and wellproven in many countries all over the world. his was the reason for the International lectrotechnical Commission IC to develop and publish an energy efficiency standard which replaces all previous national issues. In parallel IC developed and issued a new standard for determining motor efficiency. he new standard IC 000 defines and harmonizes worldwide the efficiency classes I, I, and I for lowvoltage threephase motors in the power range from 0. kw to 00 kw (p=,,, ) I = Standard fficiency I = High fficiency = remium fficiency ccording to IC 000 standard the efficiency has to be determined according to the new requirements given in the IC 00 standard. ccording to the Comission Regulation (C) o 0/00 (introduced in July 00) including Comission Regulation (C) o /0 the required efficiency class of generalpurpose motors with p=,, (introduced to the market in the future) will be as follows: rom January 0: motors with a rated output between 0. kw shall have a minimum efficiency class of, or I if they are operated/equipped with electronic speed control (VS). lectronic speed control is carried out using a frequency converter (VS) that adjusts the speed of the motor and therefore the torque produced based on the energy needed. 0
