Despite 5 breakdowns by our white Limo bus, students still managed to have an enormous amount of fun as they split into separate arts groups and took part in several activities. After catching the 1 pm ferry, we quickly checked into the Harbour Towers Hotel in downtown Victoria where we then speedwalked to the Old Spaghetti Factory for a group dinner. After dinner saw the students walk through Miniature World and then rotate through a Ghostly walks tour that pointed out local spirits that haunted the buildings, before visiting Emily Carr house, the home of famous British Columbia painter and author, Emily Carr. The next morning, the Band students left to go perform at St. Joseph Elementary and the Art and Drama students traveled to Craigdarroch Castle, previous home of the famous Dunsmuir family. Students were entertained by players from the Victoria Shakespeare Society, who pointed out various features of the castle, as well as provided a fun theatrical workshop for all. The weather was not cooperating that day; however, that did not stop students from an ice cream cone treat at Beacon Hill Drive In café in Beacon Hill park. Students had some free time over lunch, with some students even venturing into the petting zoo and playing with the baby goats At 3pm we all jumped on the busses once more and headed to Chemainus up island (about 1 ½ hour drive). Chemainus is famous for its murals and since we were early for our dinner theatre, everyone had time to walk around the town and visit the local candy store. Students were pleasantly surprised by the extensive buffet dinner that awaited them at 5:30 that evening. They were greeted by a huge dessert table, a large salad bar, and equally large selection of hot food items, including a carved roast ham. Very full, we all headed downstairs to the theatre where an excellent presentation of the production 2 Pianos, 4 Hands was put on for us. It was really refreshing to hear all the laughter and excited chatter that came from our section of Please call the office and leave a recorded message for Ms. Despins (Continued on page 2) if your child will be absent or late. 1

Our trip ended with a tour and mini presentation at the University of Victoria the next morning. The Dean of the university spoke to all the students, showing a mini slide presentation of the campus and all that it offered. The then broke the students up into their specialty groups music, art, and drama and toured those specific faculties and building. The tours ended with a walking trip through the main campus area and an explanation of how to apply, what to expect the first year, and some information on residencies, scholarships, and bursaries. Overall, it was a very full three days, but full of opportunities, teambuilding, and friendships. I would like to personally thank Maria Macdonnell, Maria Cimbaro, Robert Donick, and Neil Taylor for taking time out of their busy schedules to help supervise. As well, heartfelt thanks go to Heather Hrasko, Grant Richard, Kat Grootjes, and Blaine Melnyk for accompanying me on this adventure, driving, and just hanging out enjoying the activities with the students. Here s to many more creative opportunities. Mrs. Angela Griffin P S G B O T T L E D R I V E There is a PSG bottle drive Saturday May 27 th from 9-2:30. The home stay period would start September 1, 2017 and last one year with the option to continue for the following two years (until graduation). The young man is quiet, friendly and enjoys reading and studying. He is involved in cadets, which he gets himself to and from on his own (by bus). His English is very good, and he is very willing to help around the house. The family would prefer a home stay in the OKM area, or at least on a bus route that takes him to the school. Compensation would be between $900 and $1100 per month. Previous home stay experience preferred but not required. School character reference is available upon request. The family would like to have arrangements set up by May 31. For more information, contact David Ziebart at Immaculate Conception Church at david@icckelowna.ca or ext. 3.
