1 SCIENTIFIC PROJECT SUMMARY OF XXXIV INDIAN ANTARCTIC SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION (ISEA), Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences /Climate Obeservation of Meteorological Parameter, Solar Radiation and Ozone-I Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences /Climate Bharati Director General/IMD, New Delhi (i) Establishment of complete surface meteorological observatory and recording of various surface meteorological parameters including synoptic hours observations. Also real time transmission of main synoptic message (4 times a day) (ii) Establishment of HSWR at Bharati. Observation of Meteorological Parameter and Ozone Observation-II Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences /Climate Maitri Director General/IMD, New Delhi A. Continuance of following ongoing programme at Maitri for preparing climatology of the area and for providing weather services for the Expedition:- (i) Continuous recording of various surface meteorological parameters including synoptic hours observations. Also real time transmission of main synoptic message (4 times a day) over GTS for use by the weather forecasters all over the world. (iii) Recording of surface ozone and measurement of vertical distribution of ozone in the atmosphere through weekly
2 ozone-sonde ascents at Maitri. (iv) (v) (vi) Radiation budget studies Direct and diffuse radiation observations. This will be supplemented by taking radio-meter sonde ascents. Aerosol Optical Depth measurement for aerosol study. Reception of satellite cloud imageries from Polar Orbiting Satellites and weather chart broadcast over radiofacsimile as part of logistic support to the Expedition. B. Continuous recording of high resolution AWS and HWSR data. C. Establishment of new GPS based Ozonesonde facility. Study of Polar Sea Ice and Ice Shelf Dynamics Using Satellite Data, In-situ Observations and Numerical Models. Project-VI: Nomenclature of the moraines with respect to geomorphological set up and establishing the chronology of their formation, evaluation of the sequence of glacial valley sedimentation and establishing recessional history of the Polar Ice sheet from these two proxies to ascertain its implications on paleoclimate.
