2 WELCOME Dear participant Welcome to the Graphene Connect on New Materials and Devices, held in Athens during Graphene Week The aim of the workshop is to create a platform for industry and academia to meet and share the latest Graphene Flagship research, an insight to industry demands in this field and to find collaboration partners for new projects. As a participant, you will not only learn more about the potential of graphene and other 2D materials but also build new R&D contacts that could be the starting point for future graphene innovation projects. The workshop features six guest speakers of leading brands and will cover opportunities and challenges in graphene production, the use of graphene in new devices and the possibility to synthesise other 2D materials, to guide you into the future. Besides listening to hands-on experience from leading brands, you will engage in group discussion and networking sessions tailored to your needs and interests. 4 SPEAKERS Salvatore Majorana Deputy Head of Innovation, Graphene Flagship/IIT, Italy In charge of the Technology Transfer Direction of IIT, his role encompasses responsibility on both the Patent Office and the Licensing and Industrial Liaison Office. Prior to join IIT, as Managing Director of an investment company focused on Italian SME s, Salvatore developed a direct experience in company evaluation, deal structuring, business development, financial management and fund raising. Ken Teo Managing Director at AIXTRON Ltd., UK Ken Teo holds a BE (Elec) from the University of Canterbury, MBA and PhD from the University of Cambridge. In 2005, Dr.Teo founded and ran as Managing Director Nanoinstruments Ltd (UK) which manufactures innovative Graphene and Carbon Nanotube growth equipment for research and industry; in 2007, Nanoinstruments was acquired by AIXTRON. He is also currently serving on the Executive Board of the Graphene Flagship and is leading WP Production. Jonathan Coleman Principal Investigator at School of Physics and CRANN, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland Jonathan Coleman is the Professor of Chemical Physics in the School of Physics and the CRANN and AMBER Research centres, all at Trinity College Dublin. His research involves liquid exfoliation of layered compounds such as graphene, boron nitride and molybdenum disulphide. Exfoliation of these materials gives 2D nanosheets which can easily be processed into thin films or composites from applications from energy storage to sensing to electronics

5 SPEAKERS Stephan Roche ICREA Research Professor at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), Spain Stephan Roche is also head of the Theoretical and Computational Nanoscience Group. His research focuses on the theoretical understanding of quantum transport phenomena and spin dynamics in Dirac materials such as graphene, topological insulators. Since 2011, he has been actively involved in the Graphene Flagship project, currently as a co-leader of the Graphene spintronics workpackage. Ken Verguts PhD researcher at KU Leuven/IMEC, Belgium Ken obtained his bachelor s degree from the University College of Leuven in 2011 and his Master s degree in Chemistry from the University of Leuven in His current PhD research is focused on the development of a CMOS compatible CVD graphene synthesis and transfer module. The end goal is to obtain a reliable wafer-scale graphene integration route for high-end semiconductor applications. Amaia Zurutuza Scientific Director at Graphenea, Spain Amaia Zurutuza is the Scientific Director at Graphenea. She received her Ph.D. degree in polymer chemistry from the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, UK) in At Graphenea, she leads the research and development activities on graphene-based materials. Since joining Graphenea, she has so far filed for eight patents and published more than 42 papers. In addition, she is working in close collaboration with different companies, universities and research centers to investigate a wide range of graphene applications.
