1 Glossary bipinnate leaf Awn Bipinnate Calyx Cladode Compound leaf Hair or bristle-like extension, creating a hairy appearance Compound leaf with leaflets divided into further leaflets. Twice divided. Flower sepals around the outside of a flower, usually green Modified stem, functioning as a leaf Divided into leaflets simple compound leaf Deciduous Shedding leaves in autumn / winter Entire Refers to leaf margin. No lobes, serrations or teeth. Inflorescence Arrangement of flowers on a stem entire singly toothed Margin Edge of leaf Ovate Egg-shaped doubly toothed lobed Palmate leaf Perennial Divided into 5 or more leaflets, all arising at the one point Plant living for more than two years Pinnate Compound leaf with leaflets arranged on either side of the leaf axis rhizome stolon Raceme Rhizome Sepal Stamen Stolon Inflorescence of stalked flowers, oldest at the bottom Underground stem Segment of outer whorl (calyx) of the flower, usually green Male part of flower, produces pollen, consists of anther and filament Stem that grows at the soil surface or just below the ground and forms roots at the nodes and new plants from the buds 94 tubers Tubers Vegetative Types of modified plant structures that are enlarged to store nutrients.
