Chna (Dated: November 5, 018 arxv: v1 [quant-ph] 0 Mar 008 An nterestng monogamy equaton wth the form of Pythagorean theorem s found for ndmensonal pure states, whch reveals the relaton among bpartte concurrence, concurrence of assstance, and genune trpartte entanglement. At the same tme, a genune trpartte entanglement monotone as a generalzaton of 3-tangle s naturally obtaned for ( n- dmensonal pure states n terms of a dstnct dea. For mxed states, the monogamy equaton s reduced to a monogamy nequalty. Both results for trpartte quantum states can be employed to multpartte quantum states. PACS numbers: Mn, Ta, Ud I. INTRODUCTION Entanglement s an essental feature of quantum mechancs, whch dstngushes quantum from classcal world. A ey property of entanglement as well as one of the fundamental dfferences between quantum entanglement and classcal correlatons s the degree of sharng among many partes Unle classcal correlatons, quantum entanglement s monogamous [1-3],.e., the degree to whch ether of two partes can be entangled wth anythng else seems to be constraned by the entanglement that may exst between the two quantum partes. For the systems of three qubts, a nd of monogamy of bpartte quantum entanglement measured by concurrence [4] was descrbed by Coffman-Kundu-Wootters (CKW nequalty [1]. The generalzaton to the case of multple qubts was conjectured by CKW and has been proven recently by Osborne et al [5]. The monogamy nequalty dual to CKW nequalty based on concurrence of assstance (CoA [6] was presented for trpartte systems of qubts by Gour et al [7] and the generalzed one for multple qubts was proven n Ref. [8]. In ths paper, we fnd a new and very nterestng monogamy equaton for( n-dmensonal(or multple qubts quantum pure states whch relates the bpartte concurrence, CoA and genune trpartte entanglement. In fact, CKW nequalty and the dual one correspond to a resdual quantty, respectvely. It s only for trpartte pure states of qubts that so far the two resdual quantteshavebeen showntobe the sameand haveclear physcal meanngs. From Ref. [1] and [6], one can learn that t just corresponds to 3-tangle [1]. One of the dstngushed advantages of our monogamy equaton wll be found that the resdual quantty has clear physcal meanngs not only for ( n-dmensonal quantum pure state but also for a general multpartte pure state ncludng a par of qubts. Recently t has been realzed that entanglement s a useful physcal resource for varous nds of quantum nformaton processng [9-1]. Based on the dfferent physcs of mplementaton, there are usually three alternatve ways[7] to producng entanglement. The specally mportant way for quantum communcaton s the reducton of a multpartte entangled state to an entangled state wth fewer partes, whch s called asssted entanglement quantfed by entanglement of assstance (EoA [13]. An mportant applcaton of EoA s for trpartte quantum entangled state to maxmze the entanglement oftwopartes(qubts denotedbyalceandbobwth the assstance of the thrd party (qudt named Charle who s only allowed to do local operatons. However, because EoA s not an entanglement monotone [14], one would prefer to the remarable entanglement monotone concurrence of assstance(coa where concurrence s employed to quantfy the entanglement between Alce and Bob. In ths process of entanglement preparaton, Charle only maes local operatons and classcal communcatons n order to ncrease the entanglement shared by Alce and Bob, therefore t s mpossble to produce new entanglement. There must exst some trade-off between the ncrement of entanglement shared by Alce and Bob nduced by Charle and quantum correlatons wth other forms. Then what are those? The queston s answered n ths paper by our nterestng monogamy equaton. From the equaton, one can fnd that the ncrement of entanglement shared by Alce and Bob just corresponds to the degree of genune trpartte entanglement (3-way entanglement of ( n- dmensonal quantum pure state and s analytcally calculable. Hence, the ncrement naturally characterzes the genune trpartte entanglement, whch s shown to be an entanglement monotone and can be consdered as an nterestng generalzaton of 3-tangle n terms of a new dea. In addton, the monogamy equaton s reduced to a monogamy nequalty for mxed states. The results are also sutable for multpartte quantum states. Ths paper s organzed as follows. We frst ntroduce our nterestng monogamy equaton for pure states; Then for mxed states, we reduce ths monogamy equaton for pure state to a monogamy nequalty; Next we pont out these re-
2 sults are sutable for multpartte quantum states; The concluson s drawn fnally. II. MONOGAMY EQUATION FOR PURE STATES Gven a trpartte ( n- dmensonal quantum pure state Ψ C shared by three partes Alce, Bob and Charle, where Charle s am s to maxmze the entanglement shared by Alce and Bob by local measurements on Charle s partcle C, the reduced densty matrx by tracng over party C can be gven by ρ = Tr C ( Ψ C Ψ. Let E = {p, ϕ } s any a decomposton of ρ such that ρ = p ϕ ϕ, p = 1, (1 then CoA s defned [5,6] by C a ( Ψ C = max E p C ( ϕ ( = C a (ρ = tr ρ ρ ρ (3 = 4 λ, (4 =1 where ρ = (σ y σ y ρ (σ y σ y, σ y s Paul matrx and C(ρ = max{0,λ 1 >1λ } (5 s the concurrence of the reduced densty matrx ρ wth λ beng the square roots of the egenvalues of ρ ρ n decreasngorder. Wth the defntons ofcoa and concurrence, we can obtan the followng theorem. Theorem 1: For a ( n- dmensonal quantum pure state Ψ C, C a (ρ = C (ρ +τ (ρ, (6 where τ (ρ = τ ( Ψ C s the genune trpartte entanglement measure for Ψ C. It s very nterestng that eq. (6 has an elegant form that s analogous to Pythagorean theorem f one consders CoA as the length of the hypotenuse of a rght-angled trangle and consders bpartte concurrence and genune trpartte entanglement as the lengths of the other two sdes ofthe trangle. Note that the lengths ofall the sdes are allowed to be zero. The llustraton of the relaton s shown n Fg. 1 (See the left trangle. Proof. Accordng to the defnton of CoA and concurrence, t s obvous that C a (ρ C (ρ 0. (7 Then the remanng s to prove that τ (ρ s an entanglement monotone and characterzes the genune trpartte entanglement of Ψ C. Next, we frst prove that τ (ρ does not ncrease under a general trpartte local operaton and classcal communcaton (LOCC denoted by M where subscrpt labels dfferent outcomes. We frst assume that Alce and Bob perform quantum operatons M Aj, and M Bj on ther qubts respectvely, where M Aj M Aj I A and M Bj M Bj I B are,j,j the most general local operatons gven n terms of the Kraus operator [15] wth I A and I B beng the dentty operators n Alce s and Bob s systems. After local operatons, the average CoA can be wrtten as P τ (M (ρ = P C a (M (ρ C (M (ρ [ P C a (M (ρ [ ] 1/ P C(M (ρ = det(m Aj det(m B j C a (ρ C (ρ jj C a (ρ C (ρ = τ (ρ, (8 where ] M (ρ = jj (M Aj M B j I C ( Ψ C Ψ M Aj M B j I C /P, (9 and P = trm ( Ψ C Ψ. Here the frst nequalty follows from Cauchy-Schwarz nequalty: ( x y x 1/ j y j 1/, (10 the second nequalty follows from the geometrcarthmetc nequalty det(m xj 1 trm xj M xj 1,x = A,B, j j (11 and the second equaton s derved from the fact [4,16] that C a (M Aj ρ M Aj = det(m Aj C a (ρ, (1 ( C M Aj ρ M Aj = det(m Aj C(ρ (13
3 3 C(ρ C a (ρ C a (ρ C τ(ρ τ(ρ C C(ρ FIG. 1: The llustraton of the relaton among CoA, bpartte concurrence and genune trpartte entanglement. The left rght-angled trangle corresponds to Theorem 1 (for pure states and the rght obtuse-angled trangle corresponds to Theorem (for mxed states. All the quanttes gven n the fgures are defned the same as the correspondng theorems. and the analogous relatons for M B j. Eq. (8 shows that τ (ρ does not ncrease under Alce s and Bob s local operatons. Next we prove that τ (ρ does not ncrease under Charle slocal operatonsether. Suppose ρ = λρ 1 + (1 λρ, λ [0,1], then λτ ( ρ ( 1 +(1 λτ ρ ( = λ Ca ρ 1 C (ρ 1 ( +(1 λ Ca ρ C (ρ { [λca ( ( ] ρ 1 +(1 λca ρ 1 [ λc ( ρ ( ] +(1 λc ρ } 1/ C a (ρ C (ρ = τ (ρ, (14 where the frst nequalty follows from the Cauchy- Schwarz nequalty (10 and the second nequalty follows from the defntons of C a (ρ and C(ρ. Eq. (14 shows that τ (ρ s a concave functon of ρ, whch proves that τ (ρ does not ncrease under Charle s local operatons followng the same procedure (or Theorem 3 n Ref. [17]. All above show that τ (ρ s an entanglement monotone. Now we prove that τ (ρ characterzes genune trpartte entanglement. Based on eq. (4 and eq. (5, t s obvous that 4 λ, λ 1 4 λ, =1 = τ (ρ = 4 λ 1 λ, λ 1 > 4 (15 λ, = = whch s an explct formulaton. Ref. [18] has gven a specal quantty named entanglement sem-monotone that characterzes the genune trpartte entanglement. One can fnd that t requres the same condtons as the quantty ntroduced n Ref. [18] for τ (ρ to reach zero, whch shows that τ (ρ characterzes the genune trpartte entanglement. The proof s completed. In general, multpartte entanglement s quantfed n terms of dfferent classfcatons [19-1]. However, τ (ρ quantfes genune trpartte entanglement n a new way,.e., we consder the entanglement of GHZ-state classasthemnmalunt[]ntermsoftensortreatment [3] and summarze all the genune trpartte nseparablty wthout further classfcatons. It s an nterestng generalzaton of 3-tangle. Theorem 1 shows a very clear physcal meanng,.e. the ncrement of entanglement between Alce and Bob nduced by Charle s just the genune trpartte entanglement among them. The meanng can especally easly be understood for trpartte quantumstateofqubts. In thscase, τ (ρ = λ 1 λ. Two most obvous examples are GHZ state and W state. The entanglement of reduced densty matrx of GHZ state s zero, hence Theorem 1 shows that the CoA of GHZ state all comes from the three-way entanglement and equals to 1 (the value of 3-tangle. On the contrary, the W state has no three-way entanglement (only twoway entanglement [4], hence ts CoA s only equal to the concurrence ( 3 of two partes. That s to say, for W state, Charle can not provde any help to ncrease the entanglement between Alce and Bob. III. MONOGAMY INEQUALITY FOR MIXED STATES For a gven mxed state ρ C, CoA can be extended to mxed states n terms of convex roof constructon [15],.e., C a (ρ C = mn p C a ( ψ, (16 C where the mnmum s taen over all decompostons {p, ψ C } of ρ C. Thus we have the followng theorem. Theorem.-For a ( n- dmensonal mxed state ρ C, C a (ρ C C (ρ +τ (ρ C, (17 where τ (ρ C s the genune trpartte entanglement measure for mxed states by extendng τ ( of pure states n terms of convex roof constructon and ρ = tr C ρ C. Analogous to Theorem 1, one can easly fnd that the relaton of Theorem corresponds to an obtuse-angled trangle after a smple algebra, where CoA corresponds to the length of the sde opposte to the obtuse angle. See the rght trangle n Fg.1 for the llustraton. Proof. Suppose {p, ψ } s the optmal decomposton n the sense C of
4 4 τ (ρ C = p τ ( ψ C = p τ ( σ, (18 where σ = tr [ C ψ C ψ ]. Accordng to Theorem 1, we have τ (ρ C = ( p C ( a σ C σ [ ( ] [ p C a σ p C ( ] σ C a (ρ C C (ρ, (19 where the frst nequalty follows from Cauchy-Schwarz nequalty (10 and the second nequalty holds based on the defntons of C a (ρ and C(ρ. Eq. (19 fnshes the proof. IV. MONOGAMY FOR MULTIPARTITE QUANTUM STATES Any a gven N-partte quantum state can always be consderedasa( X- dmensonaltrpartte quantum states wth X denotng the total dmenson of N subsystems so long as the state ncludes at least two qubts, hence both the two theorems hold n these cases. However, t s especally worthy of beng noted that the two qubts must be owned by Alce and Bob respectvely and the other N subsystems should be at Charle s hand and be consdered as a whole. Charle s allowed to perform any nonlocal operaton on the N subsystems. In addton, there may be dfferent groupngs [5] of a multpartte quantum state especally for multpartte quantum states of qubts, hence there exst many analogous monogamy equatons (for pure states or monogamy nequaltes (for mxed states for the same quantum state. For pure states, every monogamy equaton wll lead to a genune ( X- dmensonal trpartte entanglement monotone that quantfes the genune trpartte entanglement of the trpartte state generated by the correspondng groupng. V. CONCLUSION AND DISCUSSION We have presented an nterestng monogamy equaton wth elegant form for ( n- dmensonal quantum pure states, whch, for the frst tme, reveals the relaton among bpartte concurrence, CoA and genune trpartte entanglement. The equaton naturally leads to a genune trpartte entanglement measure for ( n- dmensonal trpartte quantum pure states, whch quantfes trpartte entanglement n terms of a new dea. The monogamy equaton can be reduced to a monogamy nequalty for mxed states. Both the results for trpartte quantum states are also sutable for multpartte quantum states. We hope that the current results can shed new lght on not onlythe monogamyofentanglement but also the quantfcaton of multpartte entanglement.
