1 NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Extended Year (Five) Adjusted Cohort Graduation Rates ACGR for Data based on the cohort of The cohort of are students who entered high school as 9 th graders in the Fall of school year. Assessment, Data and Accountability Management (ADAM) 7/6/2017
2 COHORT GRADUATION RATE HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE EXTENDED YEAR (FIVE) GRADUATION RATES OF % is the statewide extended year (five) graduation rate. Extended (five) year graduation rate of increased by 2.18 percentage points from the four year graduation rate of the class of ,877 students graduated from Nevada public high schools in in five years; 630 more graduates than the class of Economically disadvantaged, English learners and students with disabilities have all made gains in their extended year graduation rates. Amongst different student population subgroups, Nevada s English Learners experienced the greatest improvement of 5.17 percentage point increase. All races and ethnicities have made gains. The biggest gain is the American Indian/Alaska Native extended year graduation rate by 5.21 percentage points. Asian, multi race, white and Pacific Islander students extended graduation rates gain a slight increase of just a little less than 2 percentage points, while Black and Hispanic students gain between 2 to 3 percentage points. Thirteen school districts and the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA) improved their extended year graduation rates in Storey County gained a 20 percentage points of increase from 80% in four year to 100% in extended year. White Pine increased their extended year graduation rate by nearly 5.5 percentage points. University School, Pershing and Eureka Counties extended year graduation rates stayed the same. Humboldt and Nye Counties experienced a minor decrease, while other districts gained less than 5 percentage points. This is the second year Nevada has published its extended year (five) graduation rate. The graduation rate will be an indicator for the high schools in the Nevada Performance Framework NSPF. BACKGROUND What is extended year (five) graduation rate? o If students take longer than four years to graduate (in this case five years), they are not included as graduates in the four year cohort graduation rate. Instead, they are included as graduates in the extended (five) year cohort graduation rate. Same business rules that are applied to the regulatory four year adjusted cohort graduation rate process are applied to the extended year cohort process. It starts with the first time 9 th graders of the school year, and for the next five years, their statuses are tracked. NDE works closely with the district staff to ensure graduation rate data are valid, accurate and agreed upon. Based on the LEA validated graduation data, NDE calculates the rates. 192 schools from 19 school districts were included in the graduation rate calculations. 56 schools from 6 school districts were excluded from the district graduation rate calculations, but included in the overall state calculations. Overall, 192 schools were included in the state graduation rate calculations.
