2 2003 National Name Exchange Highlights Although participation in the Exchange was down from 3,834 in 2002 to 3,374 in 2003, a decrease of approximately 12%, it remains 20% higher than 2001 participation levels. From 2002 to 2003, female participation decreased by nearly 13% and male participation decreased by 10%. Female students make-up just over 60% of the total participants. African participation decreased slightly from 802 in 2002 to 638 in 2003, decreasing from nearly 21% of participants to 19%. Puerto Rican participation still constitutes 3% of the 2003 population. Increases in 2002 to 80 Indian participants from 57 in 2001, were reversed with 58 participating in 2003, decreasing to 2% of the total participants. While numbers in most disciplines declined between 2002 and 2003, Agriculture, Psychology and Physical Sciences increased marginally. 2
