1 Independent School District 625 Department of Research, Evaluation and Saint Paul Public Schools Assessment (REA) 360 Colborne Street 3 rd Floor Stacey Gray Akyea, Director Saint Paul, MN Preliminary Enrollment Daily Reporting Preliminary enrollment is the daily count of students in the district between the start of the school year and October 1. During most of the month of September, SPPS reports preliminary enrollment counts daily. After October 1, enrollment is reported monthly. When reviewing preliminary enrollment reports please use the following to guide interpretation of reports. Preliminary enrollment reporting is primarily a strategy towards ensuring accuracy of the October 1 student enrollment count. October 1 is the official enrollment count used for federal and state revenue calculations. Preliminary enrollment is by nature volatile. From the start of the school year until October 1 school enrollment will vacillate. Preliminary enrollment as a measure increases in reliability and decreases in volatility in relationship to the October 1 deadline. It is a general rule to expect it to increase as the school year progresses. Preliminary enrollment reports are not designed to be used in isolation of each other; rather reviewed continuously to determine patterns of movement across the district and schools. The following factors impact preliminary enrollment counts: o Variation in school starting dates. o The latent nature of programs that have a cumulative enrollment increase. o Continuous corrections to enrollment records at schools: Students that have enrolled in a school, yet have no course schedule. Students who have enrolled in a school, but have not attended. Students who have enrolled in a school, but have very few attendance days. Students who have enrolled in more than one school. o New students enrolling at a school.
