2 Background PALM7 (7 th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting, 2015) Japan s leader decided to implement assistance, focusing on; 1. Disaster Risk Reduction, 2. Climate Change, 3. Environment, 4. People to People Exchanges, 5. Sustainable Development, 6. Oceans: Maritime Issues and Fisheries 7. Trade, Investment and Tourism New project Space and Geographic Information Systems Applications for Strengthening Multi hazard Risk Assessment and Early Warning systems in PICs started JMA had been carrying out various activities with PICs even before the project. Himawari 8, began operation in July 2015 and Himawari 9 was launched in Nov 2016 as backup for Himawari 8. JMA has provided services such as HimawariCast and HimawariCloud and conducted user support, with WMO, JICA etc. JMA will continue cooperating with (i) users, i.e. NMHSs and others, and (ii) WMO and other organizations for further betterment of its services toward the enhancement of early warning system and disaster risk reduction. It is important not only to get the data but also to use the data effectively. It is important to solve problems one by one while considering the priorities and feasibilities
