Originally scheduled for the evening, the game has been moved to 3 p.m. to accommodate cold temperatures. The Sooners opened the homestand with a pair of ranked wins at the Courtyard Marriott Tournament, taking down No. 25/23 Oregon State 3-0 and No. 11/11 Louisiana 9-1 in five innings. The second half of the tournament was canceled due to inclement weather on Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday s midweek matchup will be streamed through SoonerSports.tv for premium subscribers. It can also be heard on the air via KEBC 1560 AM in Norman or online through the Franchise 2. LAST TIME OUT Oklahoma opened its 2019 home slate by hosting No. 11/11 Louisiana and No. 25/23 Oregon State in the Courtyard Marriott Tournament on Friday. The Sooners shut out the Beavers 3-0 before run-ruling the Ragin Cajuns 9-1 in five innings. Against the Beavers, junior Mariah Lopez improved to 7-1 with the win in the circle. She scattered five hits and struck out eight while walking one. Lopez combined with classmate Shannon Saile on the shutout as Saile earned her first save of the year. Senior Sydney Romero powered the Sooner offense in the home opener, finishing 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored thanks to a third-inning solo homer. Overall, the Beavers out-hit the Sooners by a 6-5 clip. It was just the second time this season OU has been out-hit, and it was the first time OU won despite totaling fewer hits than its opponent. The Sooner offense heated up in the nightcap, scoring nine runs on a dozen hits. Seniors Romero, Caleigh Clifton and Shay Knighten led the way with a pair of hits apiece. Romero finished with three RBIs, good for her fourth multi-rbi game of the season. Senior Falepolima Aviu also drove in multiple runs thanks to a two-run home run. She was one of three Sooners to homer in the game, joining Knighten and freshman Sami Skelly, whose solo shot marked the first hit of her collegiate career. HOME SWEET HOMA vs. McNEESE COWGIRLS (8-12, 0-0 Southland) Series Record: OU leads, 11-2 In Norman: OU leads, 5-1 After going 2-0 last weekend, Oklahoma is currently on a 36-game home winning streak, good for its second-best streak in program history. The longest is 45 games, held from April 14, 2000 to March 29, OU last lost at home on April 23, In 2018, the Sooners went 30-0 at Marita Hynes Field, including a 25-0 mark in the regular season. It marked the second perfect home record in school annals, also occurring in 2001 (18-0). Additionally, 30 home wins were the second-most in OU history behind the 2014 team s 32. FACING MCNEESE The reigning Southland conference champions and 2018 NCAA Tournament qualifier, McNeese enters Tuesday s contest 8-12 after going 1-3 in the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invitational over the weekend. The Sooners lead the all-time series with the Cowgirls 11-2, including a 5-1 mark in Norman. OU last faced McNeese in March 15 in Baton Rouge, La., claiming a 3-0 victory.

Giselle Juarez was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week last Tuesday after going 2-0 over three appearances (two starts) at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Feb She led the Big 12 with 29 strikeouts, finishing second with strikeouts per seven innings pitched. The junior struck out 14 batters over 6.0 shutout innings against BYU, good for the most strikeouts by a Big 12 pitcher this season and her first double-digit strikeout performance as a Sooner. Juarez followed that showing with 11 strikeouts against No. 14 Arizona. In her third appearance, Juarez struck out all four batters she faced over 1.1 innings of work. Juarez allowed one run all weekend, coming against the 14th-ranked Wildcats to finish with a 0.49 ERA. She scattered four hits over 14.1 innings to total a.087 opponent batting average that ranked third in the Big 12 and first among pitchers with multiple appearances. This marks the second time in her collegiate career that Juarez has been recognized by the NFCA with a weekly award; she also earned the accolade in March 2018 as a sophomore at Arizona State. It is her third overall national weekly honor, as she was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week last season. The Glendale, Ariz., product is just the third Sooner in program history to be named NFCA Pitcher of the Week, joining Jill Most (1997) and Paige Parker (2015 and 2018).... AND SWEEPS BIG 12 AWARDS WITH ROMERO In addition to being named the NFCA Pitcher of the Week, Giselle Juarez was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week. Oklahoma swept the conference weekly awards as Sydney Romero was tabbed Big 12 Player of the Week. Romero was tabbed Big 12 Player of the Week for the fifth time in her career and first time this season. Juarez earned her first career Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honor; she also earned four Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors while at Arizona State in Romero finished the week 8-for-15 at the plate, good for a league-best.533 batting average. She led the conference in hits (8), runs (8), hits per game (1.6) and runs per game (1.6) last weekend. The senior also finished No. 2 in the league in both slugging (.933) and on-base percentage (.563) to finish as the only player within the top four in batting average, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. She set a career high with four runs against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, becoming one of just three Big 12 athletes to score four runs in a single game this season. Additionally, she matched a career best with three hits against the Gauchos. The senior hit two home runs at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, including a gamewinning two-run blast against No. 14 Arizona. Once a student-athlete ( ) and graduate assistant ( ) for the Sooners, the former Jennifer Jaime returns to Oklahoma after most recently spending 13 years at Florida. During Rocha s tenure, the Gators won two NCAA titles (2014, 2015) and made nine Women s College World Series appearances (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018). Additionally, Florida claimed seven SEC regular season titles (2008, 2009, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) and four SEC Tournament tiles (2008, 2009, 2013, 2018) with Rocha on staff. Leading the Gators pitching staff, Rocha has coached seven All- Americans. In 2015, she was named NFCA Assistant Coach of the Year. Another new coach familiar to the Sooner program is Keilani Ricketts, who returned to Oklahoma to serve as the volunteer assistant in Ricketts is one of just three players in college softball history to be named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year more than once, joining the ranks of Cat Osterman and Danielle Lawrie. Ricketts became the first Sooner to win the award in 2012 and then repeated in The first four-time All-American in program history, Ricketts was named the 2013 Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year as she helped lead Oklahoma to its second national title. Selected as the No. 4 pick in the 2013 NPF Draft, Ricketts has spent the past six seasons with USSSA Pride, most recently leading the Pride to the 2018 Cowles Cup. Additionally, Ricketts joined the Toyota Shokki out of Kariya, Japan, in August Ricketts is also a member of the USA Softball Women s National Team. Also joining the OU staff are Kelsey Arnold and Lea Wodach, who will serve as undergraduate assistants for 2019 as they complete their degrees. The duo exhausted athletic eligibility in 2018, finishing their playing careers with two NCAA titles, four Big 12 regular season crowns, two Big 12 postseason trophies and three WCWS appearances. Finally, a pair of graduate assistants round out the OU coaching staff s new additions: DJ Gasso and Delanie Gourley. Gasso concluded his collegiate baseball career in 2018 at the University of Central Oklahoma, while Gourley graduated from Florida in 2017 after earning All-America First-Team, All-Southeast Region First-Team and All-SEC First-Team honors in both her junior and senior seasons. All three Sooners were named NFCA First Team All-Americans in Three selections tie for third nationally with Arizona and Washington having four representatives and Florida and UCLA also having three. The top 25 finalists for the 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced April 24. While an athlete does not have to be on the Watch List to be considered for the top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the top 25. The top 10 will be announced May 8 and the top three announced May 22. The 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed May 28. Oklahoma alumna and current volunteer assistant coach Keilani Ricketts was a two-time recipient of the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, considered the most prestigious honor in NCAA Division I Softball. LOPEZ EARNS BACK-TO-BACK BIG 12 HONORS Mariah Lopez opened her junior season by winning the first two Big 12 Pitcher of the Week awards of the year. Overall, she has three weekly accolades from the conference in her career. Over opening weekend at the GCU Kickoff, Lopez was 2-0 in two starts. Entering the 2019 season with one solo shutout in her career, Lopez recorded a shutout in both of her appearances. She threw one-hitters in each game, finishing with a league-best.051 opponent batting average. Additionally, Lopez struck out 12 batters against Syracuse and 10 against Charlotte. Prior to opening weekend, Lopez had one career game with double-digit strikeouts. She finished the opening weekend of action with strikeouts per seven innings pitched, the highest average in the Big 12. In the SPC Elite Invitational, Lopez tossed her second career no-hitter against Florida Atlantic. She struck out a career-high 13, marking the most strikeouts by a Big 12 pitcher in a single game in 2019 and her third double-digit K performance of the year. Over the weekend in Florida, Lopez allowed just two hits, both against No. 18 Kentucky. She led the Big 12 with a.045 opponent batting average. Overall, Lopez has thrown three shutouts in six starts this season. THERE S NO K IN SYDNEY ROMERO Since the start of the 2016 season, Sydney Romero has played in 210 of Oklahoma s 212 games, starting 209 of those contests. In that span, Romero has made 690 at-bats and struck out 22 total times. In 2018, Romero s strikeout rate of AB/K (195 AB, 7 K) ranked 19th nationally and third among student-athletes in Power Five conferences. Additionally, it is 11th among players returning in All three of Romero s completed seasons rank in Oklahoma s top 10 season records for toughest to strikeout. In 2016, Romero averaged AB/K (211 AB, 4 K) to rank third in program history. Last year s average is eighth-best in OU annals, and her 2017 average of AB/K (236 AB, 9 K) ranks 10th. THAT LL LEAVE A MARK... ON THE RECORD BOOKS Senior captain and Oklahoma native Caleigh Clifton set a program record on Feb. 16 for the number of times hit by a pitch. The first pitch of the game against Hofstra hit her in the leg for her 55th career HBP. ROAD WARRIORS The Sooners will be road tested in 2019 with 38 of their 53 games being held on the road or at neutral sites. Oklahoma will play just 13 games at Marita Hynes Field in OU has played fewer regular season home games just three other times in the Patty Gasso era: nine in 1997, 12 in 1996 and six in Additionally, 13 home games ties for the third lowest in the country among major conference teams this season. Only Oregon State and Iowa have fewer, each scheduled to host 12 home games in The Sooners are playing a road-heavy schedule due to Big 12 scheduling. In 2018, the Sooners series against Iowa State was moved to Norman due to snow in Ames, Iowa. As a result, Oklahoma will travel to Ames in both 2019 and 2020 and will host just four conference games (Baylor series and one Bedlam contest) in Norman this year. MCNEESE 8 Now in her 25th season at the University of Oklahoma, NFCA Hall of Fame head coach Patty Gasso has molded the OU softball program into a national power and permanently placed herself among the elite college softball coaches in the country. Oklahoma has won four national championships, winning in 2000, 2013, 2016 and OU is one of just three programs in NCAA history to win more than two national titles. She s reached the Women s College World Series 12 times during her tenure, and in the process, advanced to the postseason in each of her 24 seasons. With 28 seasons as a head coach to her name, Gasso has a career collegiate coaching record of 1, (.779) and holds an overall record of 1, (.786) at the University of Oklahoma. Needing only 1,300 games to get there, Gasso became the second fastest to reach 1,000 wins in NCAA Division I history during the 2015 season. She has won more Big 12 games (325-85) than any coach in the league s history and has twice as many wins as any other coach in OU history. Gasso s Sooner teams have finished second or higher 19 different times since the inception of the Big 12 in They have won over 78 percent of their Big 12 contests, and OU has claimed 11 Big 12 regular season and six championship titles under her direction. Keilani Ricketts was the two-time USA Softball National Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013, becoming just the third player in history to win more than once. Gasso has also directed 59 All- Americans, 133 All-Region honorees and 162 all-conference selections. In the Big 12 era, 10 Sooners have been named Big 12 Player of the Year a total of 12 times, seven have been selected as Big 12 Freshman of the Year, three as Big 12 Pitcher of the Year six times and one as Big 12 Newcomer. In 2010, Amber Flores became the first player in league history to earn Player of the Year honors twice, while Shelby Pendley joined her in winning the award twice in 2013 and The OU softball success under Gasso has also spilled over into the classroom where the Sooners have been honored with 132 academic all-conference honors, including a program-record 10 in Twelve of those have gone on to become Academic All-Americans, including Lana Moran, the 2000 Academic All-American of the Year.
