Part 1 Background

Damage Estimation We human beings are vulnerable and weak in front of natural disasters

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

Difficulties Lack of proper satellite images Lack of experts Lack of a strong map Lack of data in the frontier Now, we are going to handle it!

Crowdsourcing Share! Why do volunteers want to devote? Crowdsourcing

OUR IDEAS Interface Interface to choose the best satellite images. Geotag-x Tag and estimate pictures Data Volunteers upload photos and comments MAP-X Show all the information

Part 2 SPACE-M

2.1 How SPACE-M Works When an earthquake takes place, SPACE-M helps damage estimation and rescue distribution. 4 STEPS are involved, and note that (CS) means by means of crowdsourcing 1 Earthquake Occurrence An earthquake occurs in a certain area, SPACE-M uses crowdsourcing methods for damage level estimation in both domain and local level. 2 Satellite Image Choice Historical: images from multiple sources stored and updated once a month Real time: read from multiple sources Best image choice (CS) 3 Damage Level Estimation Satellite image + Photos by residents (CS) Domain damage level estimation (CS) Local damage level estimation and critical needs (CS) 4 Analysis and Visualization First-step analysis of damage and residents needs Damage level visualization on MAP-M

2.2 Satellite Image Choice Satellite images from different sources such as Google Earth, Baidu Map, MapBox, and AMAP before and after earthquakes are presented to volunteers, to choose best images for every domain. Google Earth Baidu Map Before: Stored & updated once a month After : Downloaded after earthquake

2.2 Satellite Image Choice Volunteers can contribute by choosing best images on SPACE-M

2.3 Damage Level: Domain Standards for domain scale estimation are set by Musketeers. There are 3 grades as shown below Grade 1_Moderate Damage Grade 2_Severe damage Grade 3_Destroyed

2.3 Damage Level: Domain Volunteers can contribute by evaluating damage level on GeoTag-X

2.3 Damage Level: Local Standards for local scale estimation is set by Musketeers. There are 3 grades as shown below Grade 1_Masonary Building Grade 2_Masonary Building Grade 3_Masonary Building Moderate structural damage: Cracks in many walls. Fall of large pieces of plaster. Partial collapse of chimneys. Heavy structural damage: Serious failure of walls. Partial structural failure of roofs and floors. Very Heavy structural damage: Total or near total collapse. Citation: European Macroseismic Scale 1998 EMS-98

2.3 Damage Level: Local Standards for reinforced concrete buildings are also set Grade1_Reinforced Concrete Moderate structural damage: Cracks in columns and beam column joints of frames at the base and at joints of coupled walls. Grade2_Reinforced Concrete Heavy structural damage: Large cracks in structural elements with compression failure of concrete and fracture of rebar. Grade3_Reinforced Concrete Very Heavy structural damage: Collapse of ground floor or parts (e. g. wings) of buildings. Citation: European Macroseismic Scale 1998 EMS-98

2.3 Damage Level: Local Volunteers can contribute by evaluating damage level on GeoTag-X

2.3 Damage Level: Needs Residents or rescuers upload information of critical local needs for surviving WATER FOOD MEDICINE SHELTER After unloading local pictures, residents or rescuers are asked about the critical needs for local people: water, food, shelter or medicine Critical needs are tagged onto SPACE-M in different colors for visualization Further analysis of local needs can be done on MAP-M for distribution of first-time aid

2.3 Damage Level: Needs Residents or rescuers upload information of critical local needs for surviving

How SPACE-M Works When an earthquake takes place, SPACE-M helps damage estimation and rescue distribution.
