3 Some localities visited: Pomorskaya Bay One Samoyede gave me a number of beautifully preserved ammonites which had been found as loose stones at various places in the neighbourhood.

13 A unique collection for collaborative research NOVAZEM General objectives: Detailed study of the Novaya Zemlya samples (4000 samples, Devonian-Jurassic age) Litho-Bio-Chrono-Sequence stratigraphy of Novaya Zemlya and eastern Barents Sea, placed in an Arctic geological framework Paleogeography, sediment provenance, sedimentology, stratigraphy burial history and hydrocarbon maturation of Novaya Zemlya strata
14 NOVAZEM Specific objectives: Biostratigraphy utilizing conodonts, brachiopods, corals, ammonoids, foraminifera (fusulinids), palynology (acritarch, chitinozoans) Sediment characteristics of each sample: photographs, description, place in stratigraphic chart, place on new geological map, density and porosity, gamma ray, magnetic susceptibility, XRF major element composition, mineralogy and RF/SEM/EDA thin sections, diagenesis and reservoir quality assessment. Sedimentary setting and sediment provenance Maturation (organic indices, kerogen, Rock Eval, TOC, molecular chromatography, biomarkers) Chrono-sequence stratigraphy Burial and uplift history (timing/fission track) Paleogeography (especially Devonian/Carboniferous)
