20 Analyzing Social and Ecological Vulnerability Qualitative Approach How do fish harvesters navigate weather related fishing risks? Interviews Participatory Mapping Direct Observations (trips on boats!) To better Identify information sources (forecasting services, etc) used in fishing decisionmaking Map fishing areas at finer spatial scales and identify key geographic features (such as ports of refuge). Develop a more nuanced context of fishing, safety, weather Combining the qualitative data of how risk is navigated with the quantitative how are areas in NL at similar risk, develop knowledge mobilization strategy and products to improve fleet safety.
