1 Long Term Planning Overview Key Stage 3 Subject Area: Geography Academic : Assessment Your Island Home the physical and human geography of the UK and will investigate weather patterns, population density UK economy, including the different economic sectors Rivers the hydrological cycle and how humans may affect this. They will also study drainage basins ir features, v-shaped valleys, interlocking spurs, waterfalls, gorges, meanders, ox-bow lakes and flood plains. River Thames and a flooding case study Spring Term Spring Term Coasts coastal processes, landforms and types of coastal protection Asia and South West China the geography of the region, including its main physical features, countries, capitals and population. 2 8 Assessment Weather and Climate/Our Warming Planet define the key terms weather and climate and will recognise their differences. They will understand the role of pressure systems in the weather experienced at different times of the year. Students will learn the factors responsible for rainfall and will develop an appreciation of the special characteristics of UK weather. They will also be investigating four of the Earth s climatic regions Population and Urbanisation underst driving forces behind urbanisation and population change.
