CAREER OBJECTIVES To pursue experimental investigations of novel nanomaterials and explore various applications such as lithium ion battery, solar cells, chemical and biosensors, field emission, electronic and optical devices based on nanostructured materials, which includes and understand their properties as collective or stand-alone. To pursue research on applied physics and materials for wellness of human being. BRIEF OUTLINE OF RESEARCH WORKS I am well versed with many chemical and physical techniques for the preparation of various nanostructured materials. I have worked on chemical vapor deposition, pulsed laser deposition, arc discharge and solvothermal methods for the preparation of nanomaterials. I have experience on many characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, AFM, CAFM, EDX, WDX, X-ray diffraction, Spectrophotometry, Raman spectroscopy, etc. My Ph.D work is focused on synthesis, properties and
5 applications of metal oxides, CNTs and graphene. I worked on fabrication of various devices including chemical sensors, light-emitting diodes, field effect transitors, field emitters and supercapacitors based on metal oxides and carbon nanostructures. I have also studied gas-sensing properties of single nanowires of ZnO and WO 3 by using conductive atomic force microscopy. Also, I have studied light emitting diode performance of heterojunctions based on ZnO nanowires and conducting polymers. I have discovered two distinctive concentric assemblies of ZnO rods, wherein each rod has an intrinsically positive and a negative polar end induced by the noncentrosymmetric arrangement of Zn and O atoms. Due to growth along two polar surfaces with different atomic arrangements, these assemblies are distinct in their intrinsic properties and exhibit different luminescent properties. I have pursued research on fabrication of single nanowire based field effect transistors by electron beam lithography during my postdoctoral work at National University of Singapore. I have studied room-temperature ferromagnetic properties as well as optical limiting properties of Vanadium oxides nanobelts, nanowires and nanoflowers. The nanostructures are found to exhibit large optical nonlinearity, leading to optical limiting behavior and the nonlinearity is probed using Z-scan technique. Presently at Purdue University I am working on preparation of single and few-layer graphene and CNTs by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition and their applications in electronic, optical and thermoelectric devices. Also, some of my works are on surface enhanced Raman studies of graphene and thermal interface properties of Boron nitride composites. I have studied surface-enhanced Raman scattering properties of Au and Ag nanoparticles decorated few-layer graphene substrates, which could detect very low concentration of rhodamine 6G, BSA, thiols and amines. With my research background and experience I strongly believe that if I get an opportunity, I could conduct world class research as well as I could contribute in teaching.
