Emil: (Received on Dte: th November 21 Dte of Acceptnce: 1 th November 21) ABSTRACT Pinted Storks, Mycterileucocephl hve been visiting Veerpurm for nerly hundred yers with intermittent breks. The min reson for non rrivl of storks ws due to lck of vilbility of food. These birds minly feed on fish which re vilble in the tnks ner the heronry. In the present study ssessment of wter qulity of Lkshmipurm tnk, which is forging plce for these storks, ws mde to know the impct of different prmeters on fish growth nd helth. Keywords: Pinted Stork, Veerpurm heronry, Wter Qulity, Lkshmipurm tnk. No. of Tbles: No. ofreferences:7 Gundl Hrold Philip et l.

2 ISSN (Electronic) J.Bio.Innov(),pp:2-29,21 INTRODUCTION In most developing countries there is lck of good hygiene prctices nd s such wter bodies re contminted through wshing of clothes, domestic wste disposl, rw excret etc.,. Wter qulity plys significnt role on life nd ctivities of qutic orgnisms. Environmentl fctors such s temperture, dissolved oxygen, light penetrtion, turbidity, density, etc., re responsible for distribution of orgnisms in different freshwter hbitts ccording to their dpttions, which llow them to survive in tht specific hbitt (Jffries nd Mills, 199). Few ponds/ lkes/ tnks hve been ssessed of their wter qulity in Andhr Prdesh(Tilk nd Yllmm, 21: Tirupthih et l., 212). There is need to continuously ssess the qulity of wter sources.hence we evluted physicochemicl prmeters of Lkshmipurm tnk where Pinted Stork forge for fish during their sty t Veerpurm heronry. MATERIALS AND METHODS Wter smples were collected from Lkshmipurm tnk during second week t monthly intervl for period of two consecutive yers from Dec to nd from 21-1 for the nlysis of physico-chemicl prmeters. Wter smples were collected in cid wshed 1 liters polythene continers below the depth of - 1 centimeters nd collection ws usully completed during morning hours between AM nd 1 AM for the nlysis of color, odor, temperture, ph, conductivity, totl dissolved solids (TDS), totl hrdness, dissolved oxygen (DO) nd free crbon dioxide (CO2). RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The dt on different physico-chemicl prmeters of Lkshmipurm tnk during , nd re depicted Tbles 1-. The colour of wter ws found to be brown from December to July nd green from August to November; the odor of wter ws like the odor of mmoni from December to June nd fish from July to November. This could be due to more of Phytoplnkton nd onset of spwning by fish. Higher temperture observed during Mrch, April nd My could be due to greter solr rdition, low wter levels observed. Cler tmosphere nd higher tmospheric temperture. These results re supported by investigtion of Hrney et l., (21) in Pindvni pond of Centrl Indi. One of the importnt fctors tht serve s n index for pollution is ph. Alkline ph noticed could be due to presence of crbontes, bicrbontes nd lso result of vrious biologicl ctivities. Conductivity, nother prmeter mesured is n indirect mesure of the presence of ionic dissolved solids such s Chlorides, Nitrtes, Sulphtes, Phosphtes, Sodium, Mgnesium, Clcium nd Iron. These conduct electricity becuse they re negtively or positively chrged when dissolved in wter. The high vlue of conductivity in the month of August/ September might be due to high orgnic residue in the wter body. Totl hrdness is commonly defined s the sum of polyvlent ctions dissolved in wter. The most common ctions re clcium nd mgnesium; lthough iron nd mgnesium my contribute to hrdness. The portions of dissolved solids in wter hve crbontes, bicrbontes, sulphtes nd chlorides of Gundl Hrold Philip et l.

3 ISSN (Electronic) J.Bio.Innov(),pp:2-29,21 sodium nd clcium contentwhich could be contributing to high levels observed Shrivstvet l., 21 reported similr trends in Villge ponds of Chhttisgrh, Indi. Mesurement of DO is primry prmeter in ll pollution studies nd its permissible limit is - ppm. Concentrtion of dissolved oxygen indictes wter qulity nd its reltion to the distribution nd bundnce of vrious lgl species (Moundiotiy et l., 2). Free CO2 dissolved in wter is essentilly the only source of crbon tht cn be ssimilted nd incorported into the skeleton of living mtter of ll the qutic utotrophy. Trend of free CO2 observed could be relted to the high rte of decomposition in the wrmer months. This trend ws lso observed by Mnjre et l., 21.Observtion mde in the present study with regrd Wter qulity of Lkshmipurm tnk is not lrming. Gundl Hrold Philip et l.
