Pensyarah/ Lecturer 2-3 (11/9-22/9) 4-5 (25/9-6/10) 6 (9/10-13/10) 7 (16/10-22/10) 8 (23/10-27/10) Conversion and Reactor Sizing Evaluate equations to size CSTRs and PFRs, define conversion and, compare CSTRs and PFRs and calculate the overall conversions for reactors arranged in series. Laboratory 1: Introduction to the laboratory safety. Rate Law and Stoichiometry Calculate the rate law in terms of concentration and the Arrhenius temperature dependence, the stoichiometric table to write the concentration in terms of conversion and discuss batch and flow reaction system. Laboratory 2: Effect of flow rate on the reaction in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). Isothermal Reactor Design Analyze the design structure for isothermal reactors and pressure drop in reactors Laboratory 3: Effects of flow rate and reaction temperature on conversion rate in a tubular reactor. Cuti Pertengahan Semester/ Mid-Term Break (16 th - 22 th October 2017) Isothermal Reactor Design Analyze the design structure for isothermal reactors and pressure drop in reactors
3 Laboratory 4: Determination of reaction rate constant and reaction order in batch reactor. 9 (30/10-3/11) (6/11-17/11) (20/11-1/12) (4/12-15/12) Collection and Analysis of Rate Data Analyze the rate law and rate law parameters using graphical and numerical techniques. Describe the method that needs to be taken in using non-linear regression and discuss on reactor selection. Laboratory 5: Effect of temperature on reaction and reaction s activation energy for batch reactor. Multiple Reactions Analyze the different types of multiple reactions (series, series-parallel and Parallel reaction), select a reaction system that maximizes the selectivity and write the algorithm for solving Reaction Engineering problems with multiple reactions. Laboratory 6: Effect of residence time on the reaction in catalytic tubular reactor.
