2 West E nd S t ate School Council proactively lobbied and provided a range of evidence and data to D E T p r o v i d i n g e v i d e n c e o f t h e u r g e n c y and the need to undertake m aster planning to organise the s chool s capacity to provide the educational facilities for their students THE PROCESS Growth in population and the demographics of West End increasing the pressure on the School intake. Recent construction used up precious ground space and there was a need for the School and Community to control further impacts DETE conducted a Tender process and Wilson Architects were successful in being appointed. THE GOAL Enable the School to maximise the footprint and efficiency of the site without losing any of the elements that make up the special character of the place. Community funded facilities on the site contribute to the character of the School and its engagement with the Community. 7 Remnant green space has become disconnected, and outdoor space reduced. The f i g Tree became the focus for defining the character of the school, and it s loss has meant loss of shade, shelter and a s ens e of meaning for the School.
