The GIS Officer will be using computerised systems used to collect, store, analyse, manipulate, model and present a range of complex geographical and spatial data. Data can come in a range of formats including cartographic, photographic, digital (for example; from satellites) and remote sensing, or in tables and spreadsheets. This position requires sharp observation and good project management skills to combine working in the field with analytical work in the office. To be successful in this position you will need to address the following criteria: Degree or postgraduate qualification in a Spatial Science related discipline with experience in Spatial Science, GIS, surveying or land information and a minimum 2 years experience as a GIS Officer; Developed skills with geodatabases and DBMS; Well-developed skills in coding in SQL and/or Python; Demonstrated knowledge and experience is spatial and textural data entry, data creation, extraction, queries and analysis; Strong communication, analytical and problem solving skills; Written skills in writing reports, standards and protocols related to GIS and Spatial Data Management; and The ability to effectively manage a number of competing priorities simultaneously and carry out nonroutine tasks independently. JOB SPECIFICATION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES GIS Systems Works with the Conservation Department and IT to create and maintain the data structures and IT platforms necessary for GIS data storage Develop spatial data capture systems suitable for use in the field Develop mapping templates and tools customised for the needs of the organisation Undertake georeferencing of archived datasets, images and records. Use analytical tools to interrogate inter-related GIS datasets to address strategic land management and research needs

4 Develop web based applications and portals for spatial information capture as required Training staff on GIS applications in the field Acting as mapping officer in the local emergency operations as needed Reporting Presentation of spatial data in high quality maps and other relevant formats Monthly reporting on projects to Conservation leadership team Contributes to various cartographic products for planning and research projects Provides maps and updates that can be used for grant applications and reporting, internally and externally Communication Recommends and develops solutions, standards, and procedures for applying GIS technology to program and project objectives. Additional hours will be required as per business requirements within term of the contract. EXPERIENCE Essential Minimum 2 years working as a GIS Officer or equivalent IT skills, including the use and manipulation of complex databases and spreadsheets Written skills in writing reports, standards and protocols related to GIS and Spatial Data Management Demonstrated experience in land information and geospatial information systems Demonstrated knowledge and experience is spatial and textural data entry, data creation, Desirable Developing GIS applications for environmental programs Producing and analysing aerial photomosaics
