East nd Avenue, Suite Durango, Colorado PN: GE Subject: Geotechnical Engeerg Subsurface Exploration The Proposed Ma Water Le Durango, Colorado Mr. Sherman, This letter presents our test bore logs from our field exploration for the Ma Water Le along the west side of La Plata County Road from the tersection of La Plata County Road south to State Highway, and along the west side of La Plata County Road from State Highway south to Rock Ranch Road. The figures below shows the approximate locations of our test borgs, and where potential shallow formational material may be encountered durg the water le trench excavation. The logs of our test borgs are attached to this letter. No standard penetration drives were performed along La Plata County Road due to overhead power les. We utilized a three () foot soil probe on Test Borg Eight due to BP gas les the area. No formational material was encountered with the three foot probe depth Test Borg Eight. We encountered shallow formational material Test Borgs Five, Six, Seven, and Ne Phase B at depths of two (), three (), two one-half (.), and one and one-half (.) respectively, below the existg ground surface. We encountered formational material Test Borgs Two and Three at eight () and seven (), respectively. The formational material encountered the test borgs consisted of hard to very hard claystone with some terbedded sandstone layers. The upper one () to two () of the formational material encountered the test borgs should be considered weathered. In addition to the test borgs logs, we have depicted below where we anticipate shallow formational may be encountered durg excavation or was observed adjacent to the roadway and the proposed waterle alignment.

We anticipate that the formational shale material can be excavated with conventional excavation equipment, but may require substantial effort potentially usg more aggressive trenchg equipment some areas where formational sandstone layers are encountered. We feel directional drillg can be performed successfully. Directional borgs could be advanced through the clay soil materials that overlie the formational material, or through the underlyg formational materials. However, we anticipate that borgs that are attempted to be advanced near the contact elevation of the clay soil material and underlyg formational material may tend to drift due to the different hardness characteristics of the clay soils versus the formational material. We anticipate that the elevation of the formational material below the ground surface will vary, possibly over relatively short distances. A directional drillg specialist should be contacted to assess the viability and best drillg elevations for directional drillg for the project.
