5 s Stop 1. Pääsküla hillock Succession of Caradoc limestones of the Kahula Fm embracing two K-bentonite layers. This is the only place in the East Baltic where the Kinnekulle K-bentonite Bed at the boundary between Haljala and Keila stages is exposed (in the subsurface tunnels). Stop 2. Pakri Cliff Almost the only place in Estonia, where the Baltic Klint is still actively developing. In the lower, siliciclastic part of the sequence the Lower Cambrian sandstone (Tiskre Fm), Upper Cambrian- Tremadoc Obolus Sandstone (Kallavere Fm) with basal conglomerate bed, Tremadoc black shale (Türisalu Fm) and glauconite sandstone (Leetse Fm) are exposed. Upper part of the cliff exposes Arenig and Llanvirn cold water (Billingen, Volkhov) and temperate zone carbonates (Kunda, Aseri, Lasnamägi, and Uhaku stages). Stop 3. Vasalemma quarry The shoal sediments of the Upper Ordovician (Caradoc) Keila and Oandu age (Vasalemma Fm). The limestone is characterised by skeletal grainstone-rudstone (dominantly pelmatozoan and bryozoan fragments) with irregular mud mound bodies. Stop 4. Paekna quarry Open shelf carbonates (mudstone-wackestone) of Rakvere and Nabala stages (Caradoc). Stop 5. Võhmuta quarry Lower Silurian (Juuru Stage, Llandovery) shoal beds with Borealis coquina. Stop 6. Porkuni quarry Uppermost Ordovician (Porkuni Stage; Hirnantian) shallow water carbonates with small reefs. Influence of glaciation to tropical carbonate shelf. Stop 7. Kunda-Aru quarry Middle Ordovician temperate zone carbonates, succession of limestones with glauconite (Kunda Stage), goethitic ooids (Aseri Stage) and skeletal debris (Lasnamägi and Uhaku stages) and a lot of phosphate-pyrite discontinuity surfaces, bed- and field-scale sedimentary cycles. Stop 8. Kunda quarry Lower Cambrian "Blue Clay". Problems of diagenesis and weak lithification of clays on tectonically stable platform. Stop 9. Kohtla quarry Estonian oil shale kukersite, Upper Ordovician lower Caradoc (Kukruse Stage). Bed-scale cyclic accumulation of algal (Gloeocapsomorpha prisca) kukersine material on temperate carbonate shelf. Stop 10. Valaste waterfall Scenic view to North Estonian Klint section (Lower Cambrian-Tremadoc siliciclastics, Middle Ordovician carbonates). Stop 11. Aluvere quarry Fossil rich open shelf temperate climate limestones of Haljala age (Caradoc). Stop 12. Arbavere field station Demonstration of some drillcores from the Kärdla impact crater (Hiiumaa Island, W. Estonia). An unique succession of different types of impact breccias and crater filling sediments will be demonstrated from this early Late Ordovician impact site. page 5
