3 GENERAL INFORMATION The school is held from October 8th - October 11th, 2007 at Humboldt University of Berlin Walter-Nernst-Building Newtonstrasse Berlin-Adlershof The official Web-site of the Autumn School 2007 is: The aim of the school is to give an introduction to modern methods of microscopy with light, X-rays, and electrons. This programme is divided into three general topics: 1. Basics and principles 2. Advanced techniques 3. Materials fundamentals of structure and growth All lectures will give an overview and will provide a deeper insight into the modern developments of the various methods discussed. Printout material of every lecture is provided to the participants. Hence, this school is convenient for younger scientists who are beginners in the field of microscopy and materials science. 3

For diploma and PhD students the fee is reduced to 150. Each posters is presented as both, short oral presentation to introduce the main results and as a poster during an extended Poster sessions in order to provide a maximum of time for intense discussion. The posters should be mounted as soon as possible on Monday. Mind your poster number as indicated on the poster list enclosed in your conference materials. Please, affix your poster at the poster board marked by this number. Every poster is orally presented on Wednesday afternoon. The time provided for individual presentation is 3 minutes. For oral presentation data projector and laptop will be provided. Alternatively a visualizer for paper printouts is supplied. All authors with an even poster number should be present at their posters in session I (Wednesday, October 10 th, h h). The authors with an odd poster number should be present at their posters in session II (Wednesday, October 10 th, h h). 4
