2 SFB 708 innovative, thermally sprayed near net shape surfaces for forming tools with complex geometry! Forming tools for the sheet metal forming have to meet highest demands according to functional as well as economic aspects. These tools are not only expected to have a long service life but should also be produced cost-effectively. The Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 708 at the Technische Universität Dortmund meets these challenges by developing a novel concept for the manufacturing of near net shape and highly wear-resistant tool surfaces for the sheet metal forming. The title: "3D surface engineering of tools for the sheet metal forming - manufacturing, modeling, machining - " comprises the complete process chain of the tool manufacturing starting with the theoretical model up to the coated forming tool. The practical implementation is supported by a consistent process simulation. For this purpose partners from the field of mathematics, computer sciences and statistics work closely together with experts in machining, coating and forming in an interdisciplinary cooperation within the SFB 708.
