1 ANGULAR CONTACT S

2 ANGULAR CONTACT S Angular Contact Bearing Design Angular contact bearings have one ring shouler remove, this may be from the inner or outer ring. This allows a larger ball complement than foun in comparable eep groove bearings, giving a greater loa capacity. Spee capacity of angular contact bearings is also greater than eep groove. Baren angular contact bearings have a nominal contact angle ranging from 10 to 25. They can be use in pre-loae uplex sets, back to back (DB) or face to face (DF) for supporting thrust loas in both irections or in tanem (DT) for aitional capacity. Contact angles are obtaine by assembling the bearings to the appropriate raial play values. The smaller contact angles give better raial capacity an rigiity while the higher contact angles give higher axial capacity an rigiity. Angular contact bearings support thrust loas or combinations of raial an thrust loaing. They can not accept raial loas alone a thrust loa of sufficient magnitue must be applie. A single angular contact bearing can be loae in one thrust irection only, this may be an operating loa or pre-loa. Separable an non-separable types are available within the category of angular contact bearings. Separable bearings are useful where bearings must be installe in blin holes or where press fits are require on the shaft an in the housing. The separable feature also permits ynamic balancing of the rotating components with the inner ring mounte in place without the outer ring an housing. In Baren miniature an instrument angular contact bearings (types B an H), machine phenolic cages with high spee capability are stanar. These cages are outer ring lan guie, which allows lubricant access to the most esire point at the ring an ball contact area. Centrifugal force carries lubricant outwars uring operation to reach the other areas of nee. For larger spinle an turbine series B types, phenolic cages are also stanar, but H types are normally supplie with bronze cages of various esigns. In separable bearings the B type cages have steppe ball pockets to retain the balls when the inner ring is remove. Consult Baren engineering for questions regaring aitional cage consierations, or refer to cage iscussion in the engineering section. Baren 36 This page fols out

4 ANGULAR CONTACT S Prouct Series Descriptions B Type J Type Series R, R100, M an 30 Miniature an Instrument Bearings; Series 1900, 100, 200 an 300 Metric Ultra Light, Extra Light, Light an Meium Turbine Bearings Separable Type (B): Outer ring has full shoulers, inner ring has one shouler cut away. The inner ring is removable for mounting on the shaft separately from the outer ring assembly. Type (H): Inner ring has full shoulers, outer has one shouler cut away with a small retaining lip at the ege of raceway. Type (J): Outer ring has full shoulers, inner ring has one shouler cut away with a small retaining lip at the ege of raceway. Materials: The stanar material for angular contact bearings is SAE bearing steel for both rings an balls. With the option of using silicon nitrie ceramic balls even higher spees can be attaine. Other materials available are AISI 440C corrosion resistant steel, Croniur 30 high nitrogen steel an M50 tool steel. Lubricant: Angular contact bearings can be supplie with a range of lubricants. Lubricant type shoul be specifie when orering base on application requirements. For applications that cannot tolerate extreme fits, selective fitting with calibrate parts shoul be consiere. See Engineering section for etails. Baren 39
