Each set of sampling locations were based off of the channel points identified in the agreement between Fifth-Third Bank and Lincoln County that became incorporated into PCUR 110A.

In addition to these points the engineer was instructed to sample at lateral off-sets, these are identified with an A (right) or B (left) oriented upstream facing into the cove.

Bryant, AICP Director Burton Coves Core Sampling Project As requested by the Board in late September of this year the Lincoln County Planning and Inspections Department was able to procure the services of one of the County s on-call engineering firms, Southern Engineering and Testing. This firm completed the sampling of the coves #3 and #4 on Tuesday, October 24, The lake bottom materials were sampled to a depth of approximately 5.3 inches to approximately 23 inches in thickness with a specialized thin wall sampler. Each set of sampling locations were based off of the channel points identified in the agreement between Fifth-Third Bank and Lincoln County that became incorporated into PCUR 110A. These points are the same points used by CES Group in their biannual cove depth monitoring. In addition to these points the engineer was instructed to sample at lateral off-sets, these are identified with an A (right) or B (left) oriented upstream facing into the cove. The attached report contains five main parts: cover letter, sampling locations, sample logs, sample images and maps of central sample points. The cover letter provides a basic synopsis of the service provided. The sampling location data is being turned into a detailed map by staff in order for the locations to be more readily identifiable when reading through the report. The sample logs contain three key pieces of data per sampled location. The first column Sample Depth identifies the horizons present in the sample. Munsell color is identified in the second column and it refers to the mineral soil component and its associated color. The final column describes the Texture of the observed soil horizon. The next section shows images of each collected sample split in half. The samples are oriented from left to right on the image (Center, Right & Left). The final section consists of simplified maps showing center channel locations. Please keep in mind that these samples were taken and are being provided as information only. No opinion on the results of the samples has been rendered nor has any attribution to the origin of any soils identified been proffered by the engineer.

Our scope of service is described in SE&T proposal no , revision 1 dated September 25, We were authorized to provide this service in an from the client. Our service included mobilizing a shallow draft boat onto Lake Norman and navigating into Burton Creek on Tuesday, October 24, The purpose of this service was to obtain lake bottom samples at selected locations within Cove #3 and Cove #4. The lake bottom materials were sampled to a depth of approximately 5.3 inches to approximately 23 inches in thickness with a specialized thin wall sampler. The lake bottom materials were sampled at the approximate locations indicated on the proposed sample location plans enclosed with this letter report. The samples are identified with the cove number and with the sampling ID that was established by a prior consultant. Lateral off-set samples are identified with an A or B corresponding to a right hand off-set or left hand off-set oriented upstream facing into the cove (see attached plans). Table 1 summarizes the approximate GPS coordinates recorded with a handheld Garmin Rino 650 GPS unit. Written logs for each sampling point that includes textural soil classification, layer thickness and Munsell colors are provided as Table 2 and Table 3. Additionally, photographs of the recovered samples are presented in Plate 1 through Plate 7. We appreciate the opportunity to provide this engineering service for your important project.
